All it takes is one idea and the courage to take the first step without knowing the the whole staircase…..

That is what Tony Farah and Mark Ostrom did when buying a van and turning it into a sensory experience.

Their vision of support for families in any environment lead to accessible, mobile, sensory support. What started with one van has evolved into

❤️the larger Joy Zone,
❤️an opportunity to support the national Special Olympics games this June,
❤️and conversation to expand the impact in more communities.

One idea, that started with why, and was fueled by passion and personal conviction!

I’m so very proud of you both on this ribbon cutting!! Keep building the magic.

We were back at it again today! The Steps for Autism event is an annual community event to support families by sharing resources while providing entertainment and family-friendly fun! is unique in that the non-profit is almost exclusively led by individuals with autism.

We made it a family affair having Theseus and my husband Tim at the booth today 🥰.

We had the BEST time this morning at the The BRAIN Foundation’s Spectrum Run in San Jose, CA! One HUGE thing I love about being part of Pettinelli Financial Partners is their real commitment to supporting local communities and pouring into the disability community in particular.

I was surprised that nearly a half dozen visitors to our table found the race because they just like running 5k’s in the area. Because of their love of running they learned more about the autism community 🥰.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the Steps for Autism event with the The Autism Society of Minnesota.

It never feels like work.

Families need more resources.

The 3rd party Special Needs Trust is done, check!

Your loved one is approved for SSI benefits, check!

You're through the waiver process and have your budget, check!

Now you want to move somewhere else.........

Planning in advance can help avoid costly care issues when relocating between states.

Waivers, Medicaid, and trust planning can be different state to state.

But having the right team can help navigate the transition and ensure everyone's future needs are considered.

Best way I can think of to end Autism Awareness Month is by attending the Academy of Special Needs Planners Conference!

We are investing in knowledge for our clients around:

🪴 Potential impacts of the $1-trillion dollar tax cuts to Medicaid, including risks to Home and Community Based Services.
🪴 Changes to the Social Security Administrations application and appeals process
🪴 The role of trust planning and ABLE accounts for filling gaps due to cuts.
🪴 Pros and Cons of testamentary vs stand-alone trust planning for the Third-Party Special Needs Trust

And more!!

I used to think one big financial review a year was enough… until I realized this………

Three Financial Planning Tools Every Family With Special Needs Should Know 💡

Planning for a loved one with special needs can feel overwhelming—but a few key tools can make a big difference:

1️⃣ Third-Party Special Needs Trust
Set up by parents or family members to provide financial support without affecting government benefits. Offers flexibility and long-term protection.

2️⃣ Life Insurance
Creates a financial safety net when parents are no longer around—often used to fund a special needs trust and ensure continued care.

3️⃣ ABLE (529A) Accounts
Great for individuals who want more independence. Allows saving and spending money without losing eligibility for benefits (within limits).

✨ The right mix depends on your family’s situation—but knowing these options is a powerful first step.

I thoroughly enjoyed attending the Owatonna School District’s Community Resource Fair on Monday. Huge thanks to Kim Baker, Associate Director of Special Services, for bringing together so many valuable resources that support families with special needs.

Events like this are always a powerful reminder of how critical access to information is. While each family’s journey is unique, so many of us are navigating similar challenges—seeking a strong quality of life, meaningful educational experiences, and clarity around the services available to help our kids thrive.

Grateful for spaces that connect, inform, and support our communities. 💙

Special thanks to my youngest for being his momma’s shadow and helping carry boxes and set up!!
