Last week I talked about how 48% of households 55+ have nothing saved for retirement. If that's you, I have an important tip:
As of 2019, if you contribute to a work 401(k), 403(b), or most 457 plans, you can now contribute up to $19,000 and if you're over the age of 50, you can contribute an additional $6,000. That means you can be contributing $25k per year to help you catch up from the years you missed.

We're almost done with the first quarter of 2019 - are you on the right track to achieving your financial goals for the year? If not, consider making a budget. An easy way to get started is by sorting your expenses into two categories:

Fixed Expenses: Mortgage / Rent, Insurance, Bills and Utilities, Transportation

Variable Expenses: Groceries / Dining Out (includes those Starbucks coffees!), Entertainment, Shopping, Recreational Travel

After you've determined the cost of your fixed expenses, see how much money that leaves you with and budget your variable expenses accordingly. No money left over to save? Consider alternating eliminating one of your variable expenses each month and put that money towards your goals.
