As we look back at 2024, we have so much to celebrate. If you missed it in the paper, 2024 is Port Washington-Saukville Rotary's 95th Anniversary! We are so grateful to be a part of this community and to make it a better place for all. We always strive to achieve "Service Above Self" in all we do. Thank you for YOUR support of our organization.

Today we had the honor of awarding the Port Washington Saukville Rotary Service Above Self award to Lainey Holmes. Lainey is a senior at Port Washington High School and finds multiple ways to give back in the community. She has chosen to give her award of $250 to Ozaukee Food Alliance. Congrats to Lainey and thank you to all those involved.

Happy heavenly birthday to one of my favorite photographers, Vernon Biever. Born on this day in 1923, Vernon covered his first Packers game in 1941 for The Milwaukee Sentinel while a student at St. Norbert College. He was the official team photographer from 1946 until his retirement in 2006. I was fortunate to be in a few of his photos and also photograph him a few times. I learned a lot from his photographs and I know my dad was one of his favorites ❤️💪📸🕺

Our own Rachel Biertzer, Principal at Port Washington High School, shared with us a little more about herself! Rachel joined our club back in September. We are so honored to have her in our organization. Rachel grew up in Appleton and graduated with her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UW-Oshkosh. She taught for 9 years before getting into administration. Rachel came to PWHS from Sheboygan North. Her enthusiasm is second to none!

PWHS has about 800 students. Rachel shared with us the Better Today partnerships, the teacher externship, Port Pride program, and future Day of Service in the works. Rachel also covered how PWHS is a comprehensive high school, offering career and tech education opportunities, including apprenticeships.

Thank you, Rachel, for letting us know more about you and your role at the high school! Our students futures are bright with you at the helm.
