With the first of the year coming around the corner, are you thinking about your New Years resolutions? Maybe one of them is getting rid of the ball and chain of debt. Building wealth is all about having something in the bank, and not owing something TO the bank. Keep that in mind!

You got this. I’m just here to help.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve done to save a couple bucks?

My latest venture had me putting new soles on the heels of my boots for a whopping $7.

Just goes to show, if there’s a will there’s a way. Learn to think outside the box and the possibilities are endless. This is a minor win, but all the little wins add up in the course of a year!

As we roll into the last week of January, take note of everything that you need to take care of next month. Do you need dog food? Furnace filters? Are you completely out of cleaning supplies? Planning any trips that you may need more gas than normal? These are all things that need to be considered while doing your budget for February. Every month is different. Start planning ahead. EveryDollar is a free app to help you plan your money for every month. Once you have a plan the hardest part is choosing to follow it.

You can do this. I’m here if you have questions.

Now that we are a week into the new year, are you realizing that when the clock strikes 12:00 a.m., January 1, there isn't a magical reset to zero? Nothing improves unless we decide to change what we do in our lives. One great place to start may be with your finances! In these crazy times where there is so much that we can't control, we can start to feel like we have absolutely no control whatsoever. That's not true. Take control of the controllable and get on a budget! Tell your money where to go and what to do, rather than floating along and hoping you have enough to make it to the end of month.

Budgeting isn't just about controlling your money though. You give yourself guilt free permission to spend your money. As long as it's in the budget, go for it! It also flexes the self control portion of your brain. If you start to tell yourself no with spending, before long it's easier to tell yourself "no" with that extra plate at supper, or the extra snack in the middle of the day.

As I hear Dave Ramsey say all the time, "Part of being an adult, is delayed gratification." Saying no to this little piece of joy now, to enjoy a lot more later on.

My family is my own first client. We both believe in this way of life and are excited to announce that we have graduated from Baby Step 2! We're now debt free except for the house and moving on to saving up 3-6 months worth of expenses for our fully funded emergency fund. After that the real fun begins!

We as a society have decided that discussing finances with friends and family is not normal. I'd like that to change because I realize that, just like physical fitness, a lot of folks need someone there to push them to do better. Even great athletes have individual fitness coaches. Not because they don't have the ability or the knowledge to get better by themselves, but because they realize the advantage of a second set of eyes watching them to see potential problem areas of their routine.

So, for anyone out there who wants to learn a better way, or for those that are already rockstars with their finances, I'm here to help in any way I can. Just contact me with any questions and we can go from there. And please remember to like and share the post to help anyone you may know that wants help too!

And on top of accomplishing more with your financial goals, you’ll find it easier to make greater strides in other areas of your life.

While you're working the 7 Baby Steps, you're going to hear a LOT of opinions.

People you didn't think knew you well enough to try to tell you what to do with your money will call you crazy for having a plan.

Don't listen. You got this.

If normal is being miserable and not living to your full potential, why would you want to be normal?
Stand up and stand out.

We are addicted to being comfortable.

We are socialized to be placid peace “keepers” (not to be confused with the much more difficult calling of peace “makers”) - or to bark and yell about trivial, non-important things.

We don’t do well with the discomfort that comes after we say:

“Debt is stupid and will hurt me and those I love.”

“You cannot talk to me or my kids like that.”

“You are not being honest.”

“You are wrong...and here is why.”

To live a life of meaning means combining both courage and kindness; boldness and experience; and more action than speaking.

To be kind and courageous and honorable and bold and honest means people will not like you.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable, and be kind and honest and courageous anyway.

Where I lay my head is home,

Delony

Sometimes life throws curve balls at you. Or in this case, curved walls and a bowing foundation. And it seems like things like this always happen when a person is down or is trying to make a change. If you’re in the process of becoming debt free, something big WILL happen. I like to think of it as a test. One of the big quotes I hear a lot of people say is, “God only gives you what you can handle.” I tend to believe that works both ways. This bad situation may be the test to prove to Him that you CAN manage more for him.

The key factor on staying debt free is, when life gets tough and something doesn’t go to plan, keep the course. Don’t try to find a contractor that will finance the work. It’s not fair to them to front the bill and not get paid immediately. Don’t put it on credit cards to pay it off later at some ridiculous interest rate. Keep your calm but get scrappy. The first thought should be, “how fast and how much money can I possibly save up to cover this?” Can work more hours at your regular job? Can you pickup a temporary part time to cover the gap? What else can you take out of your budget to stretch every dollar you are already making?

It not easily done always, but it is most definitely possible.

If you have hard times hitting you and need help passing your test, contact me today for a free consultation to see how I can best serve you today.

There are 2 key things that need to happen with your money to build wealth, have a written plan every month and being debt free. If your checking account acts as a pass through for the money you spend time and effort chasing down, just to immediately fly out the other end on payments, it becomes very difficult to get ahead and build wealth. And THE best way to get debt free, as proven by the millions of families that have done it, is with Dave Ramsey’s 7 baby steps. Just like everything else in life, if you’re going to succeed, you need a plan of attack. That what these steps are!

If you’d like help on your financial journey contact me anytime to set up a meeting! No matter where you’re at in the steps, I can be there to help walk with you through thick and thin to crush your financial goals!

Holidays and birthdays are a funny thing in the way they come around the same time every year. Which means they should not be an emergency or a scramble to get the gifts you want for your loved ones. With just 114 days until Christmas, it’s a great time to start a “sinking fund” in your budget. A sinking fund is either a separate savings account or just an envelope hidden in your house, that every month you deposit a set amount into said savings vehicle until you reach your goal. That way when the time comes you have the money sitting there for all those fun gifts and you don’t have to stress about how much you’re spending!

If you’d like help getting on a plan and getting motivated to better your financial future, please like and share to help spread the word!
