Somewhere along the way, 65 became the finish line.

Work hard. Save consistently. Keep going until you reach that magic number.

But who decided that's when you get to start living life on your terms?

Here's something we believe at Paradigm Shift Partners: Retirement isn't the goal. Having choices is.

The freedom to work because you want to, not because you have to. To cut back your hours. Pursue something different. Or walk away from work entirely when you're ready.

And that freedom might be closer than you think.

Too many people wait until they're burned out to start seriously considering retirement. Not necessarily because they couldn't have made a change sooner, but because they've never had a clear picture of what's financially possible.
That's where thoughtful financial planning makes a difference.

With the right strategy, you can better understand when work could become optional, what different retirement scenarios might look like and what it would take to make those choices with confidence.

Your retirement date shouldn't be determined by how much longer you can stand working. It should be a decision backed by a financial plan.

At Paradigm Shift Partners, we help you look beyond the traditional retirement timeline and build a strategy around the life you actually want to live.

Help us settle an important debate: What's the best Halloween candy?

Walter and Allie are Team Reese's, while Jalene is holding strong for Kit Kat.

So, we're currently split two to one. Who's got it right?

Or is there something even better we should be digging through the trick-or-treat bowls for?

And equally important: What's the first candy you're trading away?

Let us know in the comments!

Maybe you've been thinking about retirement, but you don't know when you could actually stop working.

Maybe there's a question about health insurance, taxes or Social Security that's been sitting in the back of your mind.

Or maybe all you know is that you want something to change.

That's enough to start.

You don't need a perfectly organized financial life. You don't need all the answers. You don't even need to know exactly what questions to ask.

Bring us the "what ifs." The half-formed ideas. The things you've been meaning to figure out but don't quite known where to begin.

We'll help you sort through it, put some numbers around it and figure out what your options actually look like.

The leaves can be messy this time of year. Your questions can be, too. 🍂

Sometimes the hardest part of a financial plan is simply starting the conversation.

So, let's start there.

Does something about your plan not sit quite right anymore?

This is your permission slip to change your mind.

Maybe the retirement age you picked 10 years ago doesn't sound so appealing anymore.

Maybe the house you thought you'd never leave suddenly feels like too much house.

Maybe travel has become more important. Or family. Or giving. Or working a little longer because — surprise — you actually like what you do.

A financial plan isn't supposed to lock you into the life you imagined years ago.

It's supposed to change as your life does.

Goals move. Priorities change. Life happens.

Your plan should be able to keep up.

In a lot of relationships, one person becomes the "money person."

They pay the bills. Talk to the advisor. Keep an eye on the accounts. Know what comes from where.

There's nothing wrong with that.

The problem is when they're the only person who understands the bigger picture.

Both partners don't need to know every password, follow every account or be equally involved in every financial decision. But both should understand what they're working toward, how the pieces of the plan work together and who to turn to when questions come up.

A financial plan shouldn't live in one person's head — and if that's not the case in your household today, maybe it's time to bring one more chair to the next conversation.

Imagine: your calendar suddenly opened up every Friday.

No meetings. No deadlines. No obligations.

What would you do with that extra time? Would you travel? Golf? Spend time with family? Start a project? Volunteer? Do absolutely nothing?

We spend a lot of time planning how to fund the future.

Sometimes it's worth asking what we actually want to do with it.

So, what's your perfect free Friday?

Your family shouldn't need detective skills to figure out your financial life.

When the time comes, they should know things like where the important documents are, who they need to call, what your wishes are, and what accounts exist and need taken care of.

Estate planning is about more than having documents tucked away somewhere. It's about creating clarity for the people who may someday need them.

With it being National Estate Planning Awareness Week, it's a good time to ask:

If your family needed to step in tomorrow, would they know where to start?

A little organization and communication today can answer a lot of questions later.

"Someday" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in most retirement plans.

Someday I'll travel.
Someday I'll slow down.
Someday I'll spend more time with the people I love.
Someday I'll stop working so much.

And somehow, "someday" became synonymous with 65.

But does it have to be?

There's nothing wrong with working until 65 — or 70 — if that's what you want.

There's a big difference between working because you want to and working because you assume you have to.

That's why we're less interested in picking an arbitrary retirement date and more interested in helping you understand your options.

Could you take the trip now? Work a little less? Spend more time with family? Step away sooner? Keep working because you genuinely love it?

Maybe. Maybe not.

But wouldn't you rather know for sure and make a plan around that?

Run the numbers. Understand your choices. Then decide what you want your life to look like.

The good years don't have to start at 65.

If you've been wondering what your options actually are, that's a conversation we'd be happy to have.

Starting a new chapter comes with a lot of moving pieces.

Fortunately, we haven't had to navigate all of them alone.

Over the past few weeks, Audace has been on-site with us from the Raymond James home office, helping our team work through account transitions, answer questions and keep things moving as smoothly as possible.

His support has meant having an extra set of hands when we needed them, a resource right down the hall and someone helping us stay on top of the many details that come with a transition like this.

We're incredibly grateful for the time, expertise and support he's given our team during these first few weeks.

Thank you, Audace, for helping make the transition a little smoother — and for being part of the early days of Paradigm Shift Partners!

Help us stock the PSP cooler!

We're refreshing our drink selection and want to hear what you'd love to see in the mix.

Diet Coke? Sparkling water? Celsius? Something we're completely overlooking?
