The IRS just made a BIG move and it’s going to affect every taxpayer.
Starting September 30, 2025
🚫No more refund paper checks.
🚫No more mailing paper checks for payments.
✅Digital is the only way forward!
Now here’s the kicker: to access your IRS account, verify your refund status, or make certain changes you’re going to need an ID.me account.
Why ID.me Matters
The IRS uses ID.me for identity verification. Think of it like your digital key. Without it, you’re locked out. With it, you can:
🩵Safely access your IRS online account.
🧡View balances, transcripts, and tax notices.
🩷Manage direct deposit info (which is now critical since paper refunds are gone).
💚Protect yourself from fraudsters trying to claim your refund.
How to Set Up ID.me (Step-by-Step)
Go to IRS.gov → Sign in to your IRS Account.
You’ll be directed to create or log in with ID.me.
Create your ID.me account.
Use a personal email you’ll always have access to.
Verify your identity.
Upload a driver’s license, state ID, or passport.
Take a quick selfie for facial recognition.
In some cases, you may need to join a short video call with an ID.me rep.
Secure your account.
Set up multi-factor authentication (text, app, or email code).
Link your IRS profile.
Once verified, your ID.me login becomes your official IRS login.
What You Need to Do Now
If you don’t already have an ID.me account, set it up this month.
Update your IRS account with your bank info for direct deposit.
Learn the digital payment options (IRS Direct Pay, EFTPS, debit/credit).
