The (NIIT) Net Investment Income Tax is a 3.8% tax on certain types of investment income, such as interest, dividends, capital gains, and rental income. It applies to individuals, estates, and trusts with modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) above certain thresholds.

The NIIT applies to individuals, estates, and trusts with MAGI above the following thresholds:

Married filing jointly or surviving spouses: $250,000
Heads of household: $200,000
Single: $125,000
Married filing separately: $125,000
