On Memorial Day we honored those who died securing the freedom we enjoy as Americans. I believe we continue to honor them daily by chasing our dreams. My dream Is to help you pursue your own dreams.
Unfortunately, as my practice grows, I’m facing roadblocks because of my disability. Please understand this is not another request for more handouts, but an idea that could serve as a blueprint for people with disabilities pursuing financial independence.
I wrote Allowing Capitalism to Create Opportunities as a proposal to help entrepreneurs with disabilities succeed without jeopardizing eligibility for government assistance.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, people with disabilities are often one of the highest demographics for unemployment. I believe this comes from our fear of losing government assistance because earning limits are too low. Increasing earning limits is a start, but not a true solution.
The solution is simple: Entrepreneurs should be allowed to have an account for business operations without those funds counting in resource eligibility testing. Then entrepreneurs can pay staff, taxes, and other business expenses. Currently, this is impossible because we are limited to $2,000 in resources. Last year I had to put my office’s new roof on my credit card. Of course, that is terrible financial advice, but I had no choice.
Building a business should not cause an entrepreneur with a disability to lose health insurance. Nor should their ambition create more burden on their family because their home health aide is taken away.
The entire proposal can be found below. By sharing this post you’re helping us fix this problem.

Unfortunately, the argument lasted so long that the drinks evaporated! Can you imagine your life being controlled by such nons...
