I’m at what I fondly call taxCON. It’s exactly as fun as it sounds.

Some people collect vendor merch at conferences like Costco samples. I’m a little more particular. I like nice things, and I’m not interested in collecting stuff destined for a landfill. I burn enough trees during tax season.

But one vendor caught my eye first by the bag they were giving away and then by the friendly face - madrasaccounting

Their beautiful floral bags are the kind of conference swag I can appreciate. Thoughtful, practical, well-made, and something people might actually want to use long after the conference ends. Outside of the new knowledge, fun playing craps and meals of entirely cheese, this is the one promo item I’ll keep. And it made me smile that so many people here felt the same way about it.

For small biz, good merch isn’t about putting your logo on everything. It’s about putting your name on something worth keeping or remembering. Otherwise, it’s just cheap stuff small biz pays way too much for. Well played, Madras Accountancy. You understood the assignment. 🤣

Am I the only tax person who thinks they need tax merch? Probably. Did I spend the day after the final deadline making this glitter merch like a national priority? Duh. Obviously. Speaking of national priorities…. Make sure to follow the tax proposals, not just the headlines. A change in congressional leadership could open the door to expanded family tax credits, renewed clean energy incentives, and tax relief opportunities for working Americans. Follow proposed tax legislation at Congress.gov⁠ to see what’s being considered.

You don’t have to be a victim of identity theft to get one—and it’s free.

Go to IRS.gov and request an IP PIN through your IRS Online Account. Once you have one, the IRS generates a new IP PIN for you each year.

A few minutes now can make it a whole lot harder for someone to file a fraudulent return in your name.
