📢 Important Update from the State of Michigan

The State of Michigan has issued a recent update regarding notices sent to taxpayers.

Treasury has acknowledged an error in certain notices that incorrectly indicated 2025 estimated payments were not applied to taxpayer returns. They have confirmed that all payments are accurately reflected in their system.

✅ No action is required at this time.
📌 Additional notices have been paused while the issue is being resolved.

Based on this update, we believe the matter is resolved and that no further correspondence from the State should be expected.

Snowstorms may bring challenges, but they also bring out the very best in our community.

A big shoutout to one of our favorite local businesses, Julienne Tomatoes Deli & Bakery ! They’ve been providing healthy Wednesday lunches over the past few weeks as part of our Thrive initiative during tax season, and we are so grateful. Yesterday, despite being unable to open due to the storm, they still went above and beyond, catering and delivering a phenomenal lunch for our hardworking team. Talk about dedication!

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Melissa Nguyen, CPA to Principal, marking the first time this leadership position has been established within the firm.

Melissa joined KWN in 1997 and has been a cornerstone of the firm’s growth and success for more than two decades. She is a graduate of Davenport University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. Melissa specializes in individual and closely held business tax preparation and tax and estate planning, including financial statement compilation and review, as well as tax compliance, and consulting for businesses across a wide range of industries.

Melissa is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants. Her commitment to the community includes serving as Treasurer of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation.

This promotion reflects Melissa’s longstanding leadership, technical expertise, and dedication to KWN’s clients, team, and community. In her new role as Principal, she will continue to help guide the firm’s strategic direction while upholding KWN’s commitment to exceptional client service.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys boating, running, and spending time with friends and family.
