Important: Profit is NOT the same as cash

A business can be profitable on paper and still struggle to pay bills.

Why? Because cash flow and profit are different.

Examples:

You made sales, but customers haven’t paid yet

You bought inventory or equipment

Loan payments reduced cash

Owner withdrawals lowered bank balance

That’s why you should track:
βœ… Profit (how the business is performing)
βœ… Cash flow (how money is moving)

Both matter.

Stop mixing personal and business expenses

This is one of the most common bookkeeping issues for small business owners.

When personal and business spending are mixed:

It becomes harder to track profit

You miss deductions

Tax prep takes longer

Financial reports become less reliable

A simple fix:
βœ… Use a separate business bank account
βœ… Use a separate business card
βœ… Pay yourself properly instead of swiping for personal spending

Clean records = clearer decisions.

Weekly Money Check Habit

Bookkeeping Tip: Do a 15-minute money check every week

Most financial problems in small businesses don’t happen overnight β€” they build up from small things being ignored.

Set aside 15 minutes each week to check:

βœ… Bank balance
βœ… Unpaid invoices
βœ… Bills due soon
βœ… Recent transactions

This simple habit helps you:

Catch mistakes early

Stay in control of cash flow

Reduce stress at tax time

Small habits make a big difference. πŸ“Š

πŸ“Œ Tax Season Tips for Individual Taxpayers (2025 returns filed in 2026)

A smoother tax season usually starts with a little preparation.

Here are a few simple ways to avoid delays and stress:
βœ… Gather your documents early (W-2s, 1099s, mortgage interest, school forms, etc.)
βœ… Double-check names, SSNs, and bank account info
βœ… Report all income (including side jobs / 1099 work)
βœ… Keep copies of your return and tax documents
βœ… Remember: an extension gives more time to file, but not more time to pay

πŸ“… For most individuals, the federal deadline to file and pay 2025 taxes is April 15, 2026. The IRS also encourages taxpayers to prepare early by organizing records and using IRS tools.

πŸ’¬ Let’s make this helpful for everyone:
What part of tax season is usually the most confusing for you?

Finding all your documents

Understanding deductions/credits

1099 or side-income reporting

Filing status questions

Owing taxes vs refund expectations

Bookkeeping Tip for Small Business Owners: Don’t wait until tax season to check your numbers

One of the biggest mistakes small business owners make is only looking at their finances when it’s time to file taxes.

By then, it’s usually too late to fix small issues that became big problems.

A simple habit that helps:

Do a 15-minute weekly money check

Every week, review these 4 things:

βœ… Bank balance – Know what’s actually in the account
βœ… Outstanding invoices – Who still owes you money?
βœ… Upcoming bills – What’s due soon?
βœ… Recent transactions – Make sure spending is business-related and categorized correctly

Why this matters:

Helps you avoid cash flow surprises

Makes tax time easier

Helps you spot errors early

Gives you better control of your business decisions

You don’t need to be an accountant to do this consistently β€” just organized.

Small habits = stronger business. πŸ“Š

Business Tax Deadline Reminder (Important for S Corps & Partnerships)

If your business is a calendar-year S Corporation or Partnership (including many multi-member LLCs taxed as partnerships), your federal business tax return is generally due on the 15th day of the 3rd month after year-end. For 2026, because March 15 falls on a Sunday, the due date moves to Monday, March 16, 2026.

Quick tips to avoid last-minute stress:

Make sure your books are finalized (income, expenses, payroll, owner draws/distributions)

Gather all key documents (1099s, payroll reports, loan interest, etc.)

Confirm your owner/shareholder/partner information is up to date

If you need more time, discuss filing an extension before the deadline

Filing late can lead to penalties, so it’s best to plan ahead now. The IRS also notes increased late-filing penalties for returns required to be filed in 2026.

If you’re not sure what applies to your business, feel free to reach out β€” I’m happy to help clarify the best way forward.
