David Wyatt represented Moffitt & Company at the Inpact World Conference in Washington DC. Barry Melancon, president of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, was the keynote speaker and delivered some very thought-provoking insights on the future of the accounting profession. Of particular interest among the several issues addressed at the conference, was some timely advice and strategies regarding the new repair and maintenance regulations affecting businesses of all sizes. These changes are now effective and all businesses must be prepared for them. There are several tax saving opportunities, especially for businesses with commercial real estate with the basis in excess of $1 million. The Internal Revenue Service has reportedly posted the Social Security numbers of tens of thousands of people on the Internet before taking down the information after a whistleblower pointed out the mistake.
