RECLAIMING THE RAINBOW 🌈 FOR THE GLORY OF GOD
I was reminded this morning in my devotional time with the Lord that the RAINBOW was not originally meant to be some nice colorful symbol that describes diversity and inclusiveness. It's a symbol of how God feels about sin. It's a contractual symbol of a covenant He made with humanity regarding the method of judgement He won't ever use again.
Jessie Jackson used the RAINBOW to describe and name his organization and coalition. The LGBTQ+ community embrace the RAINBOW to describe the multicolor inclusiveness of its community. Countless organizations use the RAINBOW for similar or other various reasons.
However, the RAINBOW 🌈 is God's personal reminder to Himself and to us of the covenant agreement He made with all of humanity that He will not destroy humanity, the animal/creature kingdom, or earth again by flood waters.
God sent the flood because of humanity's wickedness and because man's heart desired continual evil. “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
So the Lord said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them" (Genesis 6:5-7). Future destruction of the ungodly, the present heaven and earth will be by fire (2 Peter 3:6,7,10).
Concerning the rainbow 🌈, God said: “I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth." And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my RAINBOW 🌈 in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth" (Genesis 9:11-13).
The RAINBOW 🌈 commands respect and we should all fear when we see it because it is a reminder of God's judgement of Sin by water and a future admonition that the wicked & ungodly will be judged and destroyed again. Except next time, fire will be the tool of destruction, not water.
