For those of you that use QuickBooks payroll, Intuit is experiencing a significant outage this morning. Payroll has been processed, but for many businesses, it has not been withdrawn from their accounts nor deposited into employee accounts yet. QuickBooks has been posting updates on their website and is still saying that they should receive funds today. I will advise as I have more information.

Please beware of shady tax return preparers! If you pay someone to do your return and they don't sign it, that is illegal. They should have an IRS PTIN number, sign the return and e-file. Please don't get taken in by this.

Did you know PCI compliance is an annual requirement for all businesses who accept credit card payments? Just as your business requires maintaining compliance by the Payment Card Industry, so does QuickBooks.
What is PCI Compliance?
PCI Compliance is a global card brand requirement with the ultimate goal to help protect your customers and your business from a cardholder data breach. While Intuit products are PCI Compliant, you also need to validate your business is handling payment card data safely. As a part of the Intuit Terms of Service, it is required that your business is PCI Compliant.
What if I am already PCI Compliant?
No action is required, but remember to renew your certificate of compliance each year.

I am currently researching options for all my clients that have one of these accounts. Other payment platforms like Stripe, Square, ECommerce and Wix are doing this compliance platform wide for their customers. Not Intuit, they are passing it along to each subscriber that accepts credit cards through their platforms and the fees are hefty and they are charged annually!

Tax Season is upon us! It's starting a bit late this year as the IRS will not be accepting e-filed returns until January 29th. Also, if you are expecting a refund due to Earned Income Tax Credit, they will not be issued until February so plan accordingly.

IR-2024-04, Jan. 8, 2024 — The Internal Revenue Service today announced Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, as the official start date of the nation’s 2024 tax season when the agency will begin accepting and processing 2023 tax returns.
