Markets are taking a break this Good Friday.

On Friday, April 3, both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed in observance of the holiday. The U.S. bond market is also expected to wrap up early at noon, in line with guidance from SIFMA, the industry trade association.

It’s a bit unusual—U.S. stock markets don’t often close for days that aren’t federal holidays.

Outside of Wall Street, though, it’s business as usual. Mail delivery will continue as normal, and most banks are expected to stay open since they follow the federal holiday calendar.

A quiet day for the markets—but business carries on elsewhere!

🍂 Social Security COLA Update 🍂

Each fall, Social Security beneficiaries eagerly await the announcement of the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). This adjustment helps benefits keep pace with inflation, making it one of the most closely watched updates of the year.

Here’s what you need to know as we head into October:

📌 When is the COLA announced?
The Social Security Administration announces the COLA each mid-October, using inflation data from the third quarter of the year (July–September) and comparing it to the same period in the previous year.

📌 When does it take effect?
Any increase takes effect in January of the following year.
➡️ For example: The 2026 COLA will be announced in October 2025 and applied to benefits beginning January 2026.

📊 What are the early estimates?
While the official number won’t be released until October, unofficial projections from The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) and the Social Security Board of Trustees are pointing to a 2.7%–2.8% COLA.

We love HSA accounts, but… did you know this little-known fact?

👉 At age 65 or older, you can withdraw HSA funds for any purpose — not just medical — without the 20% penalty!

You’ll just owe ordinary income tax on non-medical withdrawals, kind of like an IRA.

HSAs aren’t just for medical expenses — they’re a powerful retirement tool too!
