Flexibility

When the future of work feels uncertain or unsustainable, financial flexibility can create something incredibly valuable: options.

Build your finances for more than retirement. Build them for flexibility along the way.

"Is this moving me closer to the life I want… or farther from it?"

A simple question I often ask myself.

Our choices with money, work, time, and energy add up.

Choose accordingly.

Made a trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo this weekend and got to see the star of the show, at least, according to my son.

The gorilla.

Or, as he calls him… “King Kong.”

Pretty fun seeing the zoo through a kid’s eyes.

A little sunshine (+ lots of heat and humidity), a little saltwater, and a chance to unplug.

I'm back in the office today feeling refreshed and ready for August. Looking forward to connecting with clients as we step into the Fall season to help make thoughtful financial decisions that support the life they want to live.

Hope you have a great month ahead.

One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn is this:

How do I stay committed to the life I say I want when real life keeps getting in the way?

A stressful day at work…
An email promising significant discounts on summer flights…
A friend’s Instagram post showing off a gorgeous kitchen renovation…

Suddenly, later doesn’t feel so important. Now starts calling the shots.
Sound familiar?

From Impulse to Intention: A Simple Filter That Changed Everything

There’s one small question that’s helped me realign my decisions with what actually matters and I’ve seen it do the same for the nurses I work with:

“Is this moving me closer to the life I want for myself and my family—or is it moving me farther away?”

Not "Can I afford it?"
Not "Do I deserve it?"
Not "Is it on sale?"

Just… Is this aligned with the life I’m trying to build?

It’s not about guilt.
It’s about clarity.

What APRNs & RNs Are Starting to Ask Themselves

If you’re like most of the APRNs and RNs I serve, you’ve spent the last decade putting everyone else first: patients, coworkers, kids, spouses, parents.

Now you’re asking:

“What would it look like to invest in myself?”

That’s not a selfish question. That’s a visionary one.
And it’s the first step toward building financial freedom and career flexibility.

3 Quick Tips to Start Spending In Line With Your Vision
If you're feeling that tug-of-war between “treat yourself” and “take control,” here are three ways to shift your money habits without becoming a spreadsheet robot:

1. Define What a Great Life Looks Like For You

Before any financial plan can work, it needs a why.
Do you want more time with your kids? Freedom to take a sabbatical? A way out of clinical shifts?

Take 10 minutes. Write it down. Get specific. Your vision is the torch that lights your path.

2. Audit the Auto-Pilot

Look at your last 10 purchases.

Ask: Did this bring me closer to the life I want?

You might be surprised how often your money is following someone else’s priorities and not yours.

3. Pause Before You Press Buy

You don’t need a strict budget. You need pause-and-reflect moments.
That one simple question—“Is this moving me closer?”—can do more than any app.

Build the life you want now... not just the one you're hoping to enjoy 30 years from now.

As a financial planner, I believe planning isn't just about retirement.

It's about creating the flexibility to enjoy your life along the way.

That might mean:
• Taking a meaningful vacation.
• Cutting back on overtime. Changing schedules.
• Starting a business you've been dreaming about.
• Having the freedom to say "yes" to opportunities that matter.

The goal isn't to spend recklessly today or ignore tomorrow. It's to build a financial life that let's you enjoy both. Your future matters... but so does right now, this weekend, and this season of life. Because the life you're planning for is already happening.

What would creating a little more flexibility allow you to do today?

Yesterday was Father's Day. Today marks the first (maybe second) day of summer.

Both are good reminders of how quickly time moves.

As a dad, I'm learning that some of life's best moments aren't the big milestones. They're the ordinary days spent playing in the backyard, going for walks, sharing laughs, and simply being present.

Summer has a way of inviting us to slow down and enjoy those moments a little more.

Here's to longer days, family time, and making the most of this season.

Happy Summer.
