Focus on what you can do today.

Sometimes in financial planning, it can feel like we’re supposed to perfectly map out the next 20–30 years of life.

But honestly, some of the best conversations I have with clients are much simpler than that.

Are we doing the right things today?
What action needs to happen in the next day or two?
What small step moves life in a better direction?

Long-term vision matters. But if we aren’t taking action now, it stays a dream instead of becoming a reality.

Flexibility.

It has been a major focus in my own financial life this year, and a frequent topic in conversations with clients.

Over the last few years, I’ve learned the value of being financially agile:
• The ability to pause in life without panic
• To make decisions with intention instead of pressure
• To have options when life changes

Building financial flexibility rarely comes from one huge leap.
More often, it’s the result of small, consistent choices that create breathing room over time.

Sometimes all it takes is a little guidance, accountability, and follow-through to start building momentum. If that’s something you’ve been looking for, I’d be happy to connect and have a conversation.

This weekend felt like a major parenting win…

We had real traction with potty training.
Not just a one-off success. Not just a lucky moment.
All phases… clicking.

Awareness → action → success (and yes… we incentivize with a sticker sheet).

It wasn’t perfect. There was still one “learning opportunity.”
But for the first time, it felt like something stuck.

Funny how that happens.
You can prepare, read, plan, try different strategies…
And then one weekend, it just clicks.

It reminded me of financial planning.

You put the pieces in place… save a little, get organized, build some awareness, make a few better decisions…

And for a while, it can feel like nothing is happening.
Then one day, it starts to come together.

You feel more in control.
More confident.
Like you’re finally gaining traction.

Proud of the little guy.
Grateful for a small win.

And a good reminder
progress doesn’t always show up gradually.

Sometimes it shows up all at once.

Cheers to the week ahead!

This weekend was my son’s first ever organized sporting event. Micro soccer. He’s 3.

Family was there.
Friends were there.
Everything was going smooth… until about 25 minutes in.

“No hands!”

Shouted by the coach.
By us.
By everyone.

He had picked up the ball to set it perfectly in front of him, so he could kick it straight into the goal.

Complete shutdown.
Tears. "I want to go home!"
Game over.

That was our first rep. Our first game.

And a reminder…

The first attempt at something rarely goes as planned.
You’re not supposed to be good at it yet.

So this week, we’ll try a different approach.
Slow it down.
Keep it light.
Give it another go.

Same is true with money.

Most people don’t start with a clear plan.
They feel overwhelmed.
They don’t know all the “rules.”

That doesn’t mean you’re behind.
It just means you’re early.

Keep showing up.
Keep learning.
That’s how you build something better over time.

What is financial planning?

Creating a clear picture of the life you want.
Finding a path to make it real.
Having someone to help with guidance and follow-through along the way.

Sometimes the money that changes our lives comes from the people we would give anything to have back.

I have been working with inheritances a lot this week for both my family and those of my clients.

An inheritance is rarely just dollars and cents.

It’s years of hard work, sacrifice, love, and wanting a better future for the people they cared about.

When used intentionally, inherited assets can create something incredibly meaningful…
flexibility.

Flexibility to spend more time with family.
Flexibility to step away when work becomes overwhelming.
Flexibility to change careers, go part-time, start something new, or simply breathe a little easier.
Flexibility to make decisions based on what matters, not just what pays the bills.

In a way, using inherited money wisely is one of the most powerful ways to honor someone’s life… by using what they built to help you live yours more fully.

Money can’t replace people.

But it can create the time, space, and freedom to live a life they would be proud of.

Do you know where you are taking yourself? Or what it looks and feels like once there?

I often hear from clients that they want to be smart with money, or they want to be financially free someday. Unfortunately, it’s tough to stick to something as vague and ambiguous.

What if, instead, you told yourself something like this:

“On January 1st 2027, 9 months from today, I am going to deliver myself to a place where I have $0 in credit card debt. I am out celebrating with my wife in Huntington Beach, CA to get away from the winter’s chill in the Midwest and simply walk along the water’s edge in one of our favorite places. We will spend the evenings sharing stories of our year’s journey and how good it feels to not be held back by those monthly minimum payments any longer. While we watch the sun set over the waters of the Pacific and feel the ocean breeze flow in from the West, we dream together of our lives going forward into 2027 and how we can now use that extra income to better support our family and become even more tuned into what is most important to us.”

This vision and energy can then be carried all year to help with goal ex*****on.

Make sure your life is full of "Can't believe I did that."Instead of "Wished I would've given it a shot".

Flexibility in Life and Career.

When I read these words I feel a sense of calm, steadiness, and confidence.

There’s a lot of uncertainty right now in the world, in workplaces, and in the future. Much of it is out of our control.

But one thing you can control is being intentional with your money so you have more flexibility and confidence in whatever lies ahead.

And the place to start is usually simpler than people think:

Just start saving.

Start building the habit.
