Who is eligible for loan forgiveness?

Individuals who make less than $125,000 per year, or married couples who make less than $250,000 per year, are eligible for up to $10,000 in loan forgiveness.

Borrowers who meet those same income requirements and attended college with Pell Grants, designed to help low-income students, are eligible for up to $20,000 in forgiveness.

The income requirement is based on a person’s adjusted gross income, which is usually lower than their total income. Adjusted gross income can be found on line 11 of the IRS Form 1040 in their federal income tax filings from 2020 or 2021.

Employment agreements are legally binding contracts. Before you sign one, make sure that you understand all the terms, clauses, and stipulations spelled out in the contract.

Whether you work in a privately owned practice or for a large hospital network, the agreement defines the employment relationship.

For the employer, they provide protection by stating how much they’ll pay. This also involves spelling out the duties of the physician, and sometimes building in restrictive covenants for added leverage. For the physician, they offer protection by making it clear what your responsibilities are, how many hours you’re required to work, and how much you’ll make.

Consequently, written contracts can be dense. There are various things they must include. The range of items that they may or may not have depends on the position and the employer hiring you to do the job.

If you are a beneficiary to a life insurance policy and your claim gets denied, do not take no for an answer.

The insurance company is required to tell you why your claim gets denied, and many times, upon further investigation, that denial is determined to be invalid.

We have listed the three most common reasons life insurance beneficiary claims get deniied.

Here are our tips for buying a house with lots of student loan debt:

Limit your purchase price to no more than two times your household income. For example, pretend you earn $50,000 and your spouse earns $100,000. You could comfortably buy a house for less than $300,000 and still retire at a nice age even if you owe a bunch from your degree program.

You can go over this 2x rule to 2.5x to 3x income, but the trade off is that you might have to work into your early 60s. For many folks that would be ok. But you want to be aware of that before committing.

If you have student loans, it's best to wait to refinance those AFTER you've got the mortgage locked in. If you have a huge amount of federal student loans, sign up for an income driven repayment plan. It can usually fix any issues with qualifying for a mortgage if they tell you your debt is too big.

1. Do I really need disability insurance?

-Most people think of the word disability as something extreme that couldn't really happen to them. However, injuries and other illnesses can occur enexpectedly. Therefore it's important to have disability insurance just in case you are not able to earn income from your current job.

2. Does it cover all disabilities?

-Each plan varies so it's important to check your specific policy. However, disabilites that are usually not covered include: self inflicted injuries, injuries during war, disability from commiting a crime, and pre-existing conditions.

3. How much disability insurance should I get?

-If your employer does not offer a plan with at least 70 percent coverage, you may want to look for supplemental insurance coverage to offset the difference. And even if your employer offers coverage it might be coverage worth opting out of if it is not own occupation.

4. Can I work part-time and still collect benefits?

-Your contract will inform you on whether you can receive benefits while working part-time. Many policies will allow you to work, but in reutrn will take the amount you earn and subtract it from your benefits, so it's important to consider this when choosing a plan.

5. How much should disability insurance cost?

-The cost for coverage ranges based on age, s*x, specialty, and the state that you live in but a good rule of thumb is 1-3% of your total gross income.

It's disability insurance season, therefore it's important to make sure you are well informed on individual and group DI. Here are some of the cons to relying on group disability insurance that you may want to be aware of before making any quick decisions.

The optimal choice is to have both with the individual coverage as the primary, however group disability insurance has a few more cons than individual coverage does.

Together, they manage to juggle their busy professional schedules. Yet still make time for the things they love.

We want to inspire you with their story in hopes that it will help you to dream big and have a fulfilling work and personal life of your own!

The question that never seems to go away, "will the student loan pause be extended again?" For all those who are wondering if the US government will be extending the pause again I have picked up on a clue that leads me to believe payments will not resume this year.

As of this week the Department of Health decided to extend the Covid-19 Public Health Emergency for another 90 days. This is impactful for the student loan pause because this state of emergency is what the president has been using to pass a bunch of temporary student loan relief.

So now that the emergency status is not set to end this fall, my guess is that student loans will not be resuming this fall either.

Is this some good reading between the lines or just wishful thinking? Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments!
