Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all that has been done to help our people and our communities.

When I first started this nonprofit, my focus was on helping teach our youth how to set themselves up for a better financial future. While that remains a major priority, Hurricane has led me to take on new challenges as well.

I am working to help others apply for funding that have been affected by this hurricane, as well as applying for grants that I can use to help the community. But I am doing all of this on my own, and I could use some help.

Aside from this, I am still making sure all of my Catawba River Accounting & Tax clients are taken care of.

I’ve dedicated countless hours gathering supplies and distributing them to those in need, whether in my beat-up Ford Focus or our old Ford F250 diesel truck. I don’t regret a second of it—but I have to be honest, it does get expensive.
I am committed to helping others in the community in any way that I can.

So far, I haven’t received any outside funding; every effort has been made out of my own pocket. If you’d like to support this mission, any donation is deeply appreciated and is also tax-deductible.

How many of the locals in this area know about the town of Fonta Flora?

It was a small community in North Carolina that became submerged in the early 1900s due to the construction of a hydroelectric dam on the Catawba River. This dam created Lake James, which now covers the area where the town once stood.

Fonta Flora was a predominantly African American farming community before it was inundated. The construction of the dam by the Southern Power Company (now Duke Energy) resulted in the flooding of the land, displacing the residents and erasing the physical presence of the town.

In the case of Fonta Flora, once the Southern Power Company secured the land for the hydroelectric dam, many of the residents were pressured to sell their property. Those who resisted or were reluctant had no choice once the area was submerged. This type of forced displacement was not uncommon during this era, as infrastructure projects prioritized industrial growth and electricity generation over the concerns of local populations, often with little regard for the long-term impacts on those displaced communities.

The legacy of Fonta Flora, like other communities that faced similar fates, is a reminder of the cost of progress for some, especially rural and marginalized populations.

Believe me when I tell you that they are going to do the same thing to this region to bring in a lithium mine unless we work together to put a stop to it. They are grabbing land as fast as they can. They have their mules doing the work and they don't even realize what they are doing.
