The filing of your Federal and New Jersey tax returns have been extended from April 15th to May 17th. This new due date also applies to any tax payment which may be due with your 2020 return or extension. Even with the extended due date, please try to get your information to us as soon as possible.

If you pay estimated taxes, however, the first quarter tax payments (Federal and State) for 2021 are still due April 15th.

Got a letter from IRS saying you owe taxes? Check if there’s a barcode on it. The Service is adding a QR bar code to its CP14 balance due notices. Taxpayers who receive the letter can use their smartphones to scan the QR code to go directly to IRS’s website for information on resolving the balance due online.

Beware of scam text messages concerning economic impact payments. IRS warns about the latest scheme from fraudsters to steal your financial information. The text message reads as follows: “You have received a direct deposit of $1,200 for COVID-19 TREAS FUND. Further action is required to accept this payment into your account.” It links to a fake site mimicking IRS’s “Get My Payment” tool. Don’t respond to the text or open the link. Instead, take a screen shot and email it to the IRS at [email protected]. Include the date and time you got the text.
