Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley creates stronger communities by empowering families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable housing. We work to revitalize neighborhoods, build affordable and sustainable housing solutions, and empower families through successful homeownership. Since 1986, we have partnered with volunteers, the community, and qualified families with limited incomes to strengthen communities in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara Counties.

It's the state's only funding program that creates new affordable homeownership supply — and there's not a dollar for it in the proposed budget. California’s budget negotiations are in the final stretch, and affordable homeownership funding is on the line. With the Governor’s May Revise released, the Administration and Legislature are now making final decisions about what will be included in the 2026–27 State Budget. We need to make sure CalHome is part of it.

CalHome is California’s only state program dedicated to the production and preservation of affordable homes for ownership. Without renewed funding, shovel-ready affordable homeownership projects across the state could stall.
Take action today and urge state leaders to include $500 million for CalHome in the final budget.

To us at Habitat, affordable housing looks like a wide smile on a new homeowner's face as he unlocks his front door. A teenager memorizing his home address for the first time in his life. A couple on the verge of paying off their mortgage, the days of rent hikes and constant moves a distant memory. A child hosting her first sleepover. Affordable housing is the stories that are possible when more of our neighbors have a stable, secure place they can count on. This Affordable Housing Month, we're reflecting on what we make possible when we invest in affordable housing. What does affordable housing mean to you?
