Many of you have been following the One Big Beautiful Bill, but don't let Meals & Entertainment get by you.
The following summarizes the deductibility rules for various business meals and entertainment.

Client entertainment, such as:
• Sporting event tickets;
• Theater tickets;
• Golf outings; and
• Yacht excursions; etc.
Client meals in conjunction with entertainment, not purchased separately from the entertainment 0% deductible

Client meals (directly related to a business meeting) 50% deductible
Meals for employees while traveling for business 50% deductible

Meals provided for the convenience of the employer, such as:
• Tax season meals in office;
• Employee meals on boat charter;
• Employee meals at seminars; and
• Office coffee, water, and snacks 50% deductible (1/1/18–12/31/25); 0% deductible (after 12/31/25)

Holiday parties, company picnics, and other occasional employee appreciation events 100% deductible

The Los Angeles City Council approved a business tax relief program for taxpayers with a business location that was destroyed by the wildfires, including home-based businesses. Under the program, a business destroyed by the wildfires is deemed to have terminated the business as of December 31, 2024. This means the taxpayer will not be required to renew their business license or pay the business license tax for the 2025 tax year. When the taxpayer reopens, they will need to reregister as if they were a newly established business.
Businesses whose property was not physically destroyed but that experienced severe economic disruption for at least 45 days can also qualify.

UPDATE: The filing is again due but now by January 13th 2025.

URGENT: On December 3, 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas issued a nationwide preliminary injunction temporarily halting enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). The decision, made in Texas Top Cop Shop, Inc. v. Garland indicated that the CTA and its reporting rules are likely unconstitutional for purposes of granting the injunction.

The key implication of the injunction is that enforcement is currently halted. The injunction prohibits FinCEN from taking any enforcement actions related to the CTA until further notice. As such, companies are currently not required to file their Beneficial Ownership Report with FinCEN by January 1, 2025.

This injunction is a preliminary measure, and further legal proceedings may alter its impact. Our team is closely monitoring this evolving situation and will advise you of any updates
