We are hearing and seeing a lot of horror stories about AI. It will be a useful tool in the bag one day until then I would use caution automating your financial records. Below are some of the potential pitfalls of AI.

1. Data Privacy and Security Breaches
Leakage of Financial Data: In a major incident, a, AI assistant was temporarily suspended after it was caught giving out sensitive, confidential financial records of one customer to another.
Data Security Risks: AI systems process highly sensitive data, including bank details, which, if not properly secured, can lead to significant fraud and exposure of private financial information.

2. High-Level Operational Failures
The "Unicorn" Failure (Bench.co): A major AI-powered bookkeeping firm, which raised $60 million to replace traditional bookkeeping, failed to deliver on its promise of full automation. It was forced to close down because its automated, "too-good-to-be-true" model was unprofitable, leaving thousands of customers scrambling.
Over-reliance on "Set and Forget": When AI is left unchecked, it often misclassifies expenses, flags normal transactions as fraud, and misses critical, context-dependent, and non-routine transactions.

3. Misinformation and Inaccuracy (Hallucinations)
AI "Hallucinations": Research indicates that general AI (like ChatGPT) can have hallucination rates of 58% to 88% on tax or legal queries.

4. Technical and Implementation Nightmares
Complexity Overload: Companies trying to use new, AI-driven, consumption-based pricing models often find that their older, legacy systems cannot handle the complexity, causing a "rubik's cube" of revenue recognition problems.

5. Increased Audit and Compliance Risks
Incomplete Records: Relying solely on automated bank feeds without proper, human-verified receipt management can lead to missing documents, causing severe issues during tax season and potential penalties during audits.
