DHS Terminates Temporary Protected Status for Haiti

The Department of Homeland Security today posted a Federal Register notice on the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. After consulting with interagency partners, Secretary Noem concluded that Haiti no longer meets the statutory requirements for TPS. This decision was based on a review conducted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, input from relevant U.S. government agencies, and an analysis indicating that allowing Haitian nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is inconsistent with U.S. national interests.

The termination of the Haiti Temporary Protected Status designation is effective February 3, 2026. If you are an alien who is currently a beneficiary of TPS for Haiti, you should prepare to depart if you have no other lawful basis for remaining in the United States. You can use the CBP Home mobile application to report your departure from the United States. This secure and convenient self-deportation process includes a complimentary plane ticket, a $1,000 exit bonus, and potential future opportunities for legal immigration to the United States.

Le Département de la Sécurité intérieure a publié aujourd'hui un avis au Journal officiel fédéral (Federal Register) concernant la fin du statut de protection temporaire (TPS) pour Haïti. Après consultation de ses partenaires interministériels, la secrétaire Noem a conclu qu'Haïti ne remplit plus les conditions requises pour bénéficier du TPS. Cette décision s'appuie sur un examen mené par les services de citoyenneté et d'immigration des États-Unis (USCIS), sur les observations des agences gouvernementales américaines compétentes et sur une analyse indiquant que le maintien temporaire de ressortissants haïtiens aux États-Unis est contraire aux intérêts nationaux américains.

WASHINGTON – La secrétaire à la Sécurité intérieure, Kristi Noem, a annoncé aujourd’hui la fin du statut de protection temporaire (TPS) accordé à Haïti. Ce statut expire le 3 août 2025 et prendra effet le mardi 2 septembre 2025.

Au moins 60 jours avant l’expiration d’un TPS, la secrétaire, après consultation des agences gouvernementales américaines compétentes, est tenue d’examiner les conditions d’un pays bénéficiant du TPS afin de déterminer si les conditions justifiant ce statut sont toujours remplies et, le cas échéant, la durée de sa prolongation.
« Cette décision rétablit l'intégrité de notre système d'immigration et garantit que le statut de protection temporaire est bel et bien temporaire », a déclaré un porte-parole du DHS. « La situation environnementale en Haïti s'est suffisamment améliorée pour que les citoyens haïtiens puissent rentrer chez eux en toute sécurité. Nous encourageons ces personnes à profiter des ressources du Département pour leur retour en Haïti, qui peuvent être organisées via l'application CBP Home. Les ressortissants haïtiens peuvent demander un statut légal par le biais d'autres demandes d'aide à l'immigration, s'ils y sont admissibles. »

Après avoir consulté ses partenaires interinstitutions, la secrétaire Noem a déterminé que la situation en Haïti ne répondait plus aux exigences légales du TPS. Cette décision s'appuie sur un examen de la situation en Haïti par les services de citoyenneté et d'immigration des États-Unis et en consultation avec le Département d'État. La secrétaire a estimé que, globalement, la situation dans le pays s'était améliorée au point que les Haïtiens peuvent rentrer chez eux en toute sécurité. Elle a également jugé qu'autoriser les ressortissants haïtiens à séjourner temporairement aux États-Unis était contraire à l'intérêt national des États-Unis. Les ressortissants haïtiens rentrant chez eux sont encouragés à utiliser l'application CBP Home du Service des douanes et de la protection des frontières des États-Unis pour signaler leur départ des États-Unis.

DHS has temporarily paused the issuance of Advanced Travel Authorizations (ATA) for new CHNV beneficiaries while it undertakes a review of the supporter application process. USCIS continues to accept Form I-134A, however, no requests will be confirmed until the review of the supporter application process is complete. Beneficiaries who have already received an ATA should check their myUSCIS account for updates before making travel arrangements and prior to travel. Individuals with a valid ATA are permitted to travel. ATA processing will restart as soon as possible once this thorough review concludes.
