SCAM ALERT: We’re seeing an increase in fraudulent IRS CP53E notices.
While CP53E letters are legitimate IRS notices, scammers are using fake versions to steal personal and banking information.
A real CP53E notice usually means the IRS could not complete your direct deposit and will instead mail a paper check. The IRS will NOT ask you to resubmit banking information.
Red flags to watch for:
• Requests for SSNs, bank logins, or PINs
• Urgent or threatening language
• QR codes or links not ending in IRS.gov
• Suspicious phone numbers or websites
If you receive a notice you’re unsure about, verify everything directly through IRS.gov or contact JTK Advisors before responding.
