By now those of you who have coverage in Florida have had a preliminary visit from the adjuster representing the insurance carrier. I am sure he or she has come off as a real good person and you are foolishly thinking all will be well. You are incorrect and you have not questioned that person's credentials. Are they familiar with construction costs in your area? Are they actually licensed to work in Florida? Have they ever prepared a building estimate and loss for a carrier before? Just a few of the questions to ask. Because in my experience with claims on a national level the answer to those questions have been NO. Is that the type of person you want adjusting your claim? They cannot professionally calculate correctly the replacement cost of your home. Which in the end will mean you will accept a settlement far less than the value of your loss.
