One money habit worth adopting before year-end 👇

If your business collects sales tax, set up a separate account for it. That money trickles in a little at a time with every sale, but when the deadline hits, it adds up fast. And it's never a fun surprise when it's not there.

Collect it, move it, and don't touch it until it's due.

It's National Financial Awareness Day. So… Do you actually know where your P&L is? 📊

We'd say mid-August is the perfect time to do a pulse check. Books caught up? Numbers make sense? If tax time always feels like a surprise you saw coming but ignored anyway, you're not the only one.

No judgment. Most business owners didn't sign up to do their own bookkeeping. That's kind of the whole reason we're here.

The Napa Town & Country Fair is here, and for our family, that means JLAC week. 🐖

The Junior Livestock Advisory Committee show is Wednesday, and the auction follows on Saturday. My son Chase will be showing pigs, and I'll be at the fairgrounds all week, bookkeeper by trade, livestock mom by heart.

If you've never been, it's worth coming out. These kids work hard all year for this.

🗓️ Show: Wednesday, August 5, starting at 8am
🗓️ Auction: Saturday, August 8, registration at 8am, auction starts at 9am

A little summer bookkeeping wisdom 💡

Summer tends to be the quiet season, with fewer fires (knock on wood) and more breathing room. Which makes it the perfect time to get your books current.

Here's what's coming: extension deadlines are in September and October, and that's when the scramble starts for anyone who's behind. A few hours of catch-up now saves a stressful fall later.

Our advice? Don't wait until December. Now is the easier time to deal with it, and if you'd like a hand getting caught up, we're here.

One of our favorite local traditions is coming up, and this one's close to home. For those who don't know, Barbara serves on the Napa JLAC, and her son shows pigs every year.

Here's what to put on your calendar:

🐖 Livestock Show (judging): Wednesday, August 5.
Watch local kids show their animals and earn their awards

🎡 Napa Town & Country Fair: August 7–9 at the fairgrounds

🔨 Livestock Auction: Saturday, August 8
Bid on an animal and stock your freezer for the year while supporting the kids who raised them

Whether you come for the carnival, the kids, or the chance to fill your freezer with local pork or beef, it's a great Napa morning out. More details and photos to come!
