Funding will address evolving needs, including shelter, food, financial assistance, and other services as they are identified by on-the-ground partners doing critical work on Maui. Aloha! Quick update!

Good news! If you received the Middle Class Tax Refund or other state tax rebate, the IRS has determined that they can be excluded from income.

Have a great weekend!

IR-2023-23, Feb. 10, 2023 — The IRS provided details today clarifying the federal tax status involving special payments made by 21 states in 2022.

02/08/2023

⚠️ READ THIS before you file your tax return ⚠️

No clickbait. The IRS announced last week it will make a decision regarding "special tax refunds and payments made by states in 2022" This includes payments for the Middle-Class Tax Refund (California), Act 115 Refund (Hawaii), Delaware Relief Rebate Program, and others.

So what does that mean for taxpayers?

Until the IRS clarifies the taxability of these state payments, waiting to file your tax return might be your best option.

Already filed your return?

You don't need to amend until the IRS gives more guidance on the issue later this week (2/11).
