BEWARE OF IRS PHONE SCAMS!!!!!
IRS on March 5 issued a warning to taxpayers regarding tax time phone scams which involve "aggressive criminals" posing as IRS agents in an effort to steal money or personal information. (IR 2019-28) These phone scams have once again made the IRS Dirty Dozen list of schemes that target taxpayers throughout the year. The agency said it "continues to see variations of these aggressive calling schemes". According to IRS, very early in the filing season it "generally sees an upswing in scam phone calls threatening arrest, deportation or license revocation" if the victims refuse to pay a phony tax bill. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has estimated that these types of scams have cost 14,700 victims a total of $72 million since October 2013. "Taxpayers should be on the lookout for unexpected and aggressive phone calls purportedly coming from the IRS", said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig
