🚨 South Carolina Business Owners: Have You Reviewed Your Business Personal Property Account Recently?

Many business owners assume their Business Personal Property (BPP) filing is “set it and forget it.” Unfortunately, that’s often not the case.

Whether you’re a sole proprietor, LLC, partnership, or corporation, it’s important to periodically review:

✅ Assets that have been disposed of but are still being taxed
✅ New equipment that should be reported
✅ Vehicle exclusions that may apply
✅ Incorrect asset classifications
✅ Business closures or ownership changes
✅ Prior year filing errors

I’ve seen businesses overpay taxes simply because old assets remained on their account for years.

Even if your business is small, a quick review can help ensure you’re only paying what you actually owe.

Remember: South Carolina generally requires a BPP filing even if your business owns very little property, and there is often still a minimum taxable value calculation.

If you’re unsure whether your account is accurate, now is a great time to take a look before the next filing season.

Mount Pleasant friends — I normally don’t post things like this, but I’m trying to grow my little accounting firm this year and would really love to take on a few more bookkeeping clients locally.

This is a separate tax filing that’s required every year

🚨 Scam Alert for Business Owners Using Bill.com 🚨

We’ve been made aware of a new scam targeting businesses using Bill.com.

Scammers are calling and pretending to be Bill.com support, offering to “help you get paid faster” by updating your banking information or reconnecting your account.

⚠️ This is a scam.

Please keep the following in mind:

- Bill.com will NOT call you asking to update banking details over the phone
- Never share login credentials, bank info, or verification codes with anyone who calls you
- Do not click links or follow instructions from unsolicited calls or emails

✅ What you should do instead:

- Only log in directly through the official Bill.com website
- Contact Bill.com support using their official contact information if you’re unsure
- Notify your accountant or advisor if something feels off

Protecting your financial information is critical, and these scams are becoming more common—especially during busy financial periods.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately.

We are seeing updates that South Carolina may adopt certain federal tax changes for the 2025 tax year. This would be a favorable change for many taxpayers, though final details are still pending.

What this means
Some individuals who already filed their 2025 South Carolina return may need to amend, depending on how the state moves forward. Not all taxpayers will be impacted.

The potential changes under consideration include
• No tax on tips
• No tax on overtime
• Car loan interest deduction
• Increased standard deduction
• Enhanced senior deduction (federal version)
• Expanded Section 179 expensing
• Various new federal adjustments to income

If South Carolina adopts these changes, we will review all returns we have filed and reach out to clients who may benefit from an amendment.

We understand this is coming late in tax season and share your frustration. We will keep you updated as more guidance becomes available.

South Carolina has also extended the state filing deadline. This extension applies only to South Carolina, not federal returns.
