April 15th is DONE.

We’re not finished — there are still a lot of extensions out there and plenty more work ahead — but getting through the 15th is always a big milestone.

This is Leazer Bookkeeping & Tax Service’s 30th year in business. I’ve got clients who have been with me since the beginning, I appreciate and love you.

We’ve also brought on a lot of new clients this year, and I’m excited about what’s ahead. We’ve got some new things coming on the bookkeeping side that I think are going to be really good.

I want to thank Ms Pat McCall and Caitlyn Weddington Lemmond and of course Ms Mae (she’s on vacation with us in that picture) — they’ve worked some long hours and are a big part of getting us through this season.

We’re going to take a little time to regroup and will be back in the office the first Tuesday in May.

If you need us, just reach out — we’re still here, just slowing down a little.

Tax Season 2025–2026 – Important Information

Happy Tax Time and welcome to another tax season. We appreciate your continued trust in our office and want to share important information about how the 2025–2026 tax season will operate, including scheduling, staffing, refunds, and how to submit your information.

When Does Tax Season Begin?
The IRS has not yet announced the official opening date for e-filing. As soon as the IRS opens the system, we will begin filing returns immediately.
Please note that under the PATH Act, returns that include certain refundable credits (such as the Earned Income Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit) cannot be released by the IRS until mid-February, even if filed earlier. This is an IRS rule and applies nationwide.

Refund Advances
While the IRS must hold certain refunds under the PATH Act, our bank partner allows eligible clients to receive a refund advance.

This means:
Your return can be prepared and filed as soon as all required documents are receive If approved, you may receive an advance before the IRS releases PATH Act refunds Final refund timing is still controlled by the IRS Refund advances are optional and subject to approval. Additional details will be discussed if this option applies to you.

Appointments & Office Schedule
In-house appointments are optional and available for clients who would like to sit down with Debbie in person while their return is being prepared.
Debbie Leazer is available for scheduled in-house appointments on:
Tuesdays
Thursdays
Saturdays
If you would like an in-house appointment, it is important that you schedule as soon as possible, as appointment slots are limited and fill quickly. If you are unable to find an appointment time that works within the available schedule, please contact the office and we will do our best to work out an alternative.

Many returns are prepared without an in-person appointment. If you prefer not to meet in person, your return can be completed by submitting your documents through our intake process.
You may schedule an appointment now and reschedule later if needed.

Office / Intake Support Hours (Caitlin)
Monday–Thursday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Caitlin is not in the office on Saturdays. Saturday availability, when offered, is by appointment with Debbie only.

Who Will Be Doing What This Season
Many of our long-time clients know and care deeply about Ms. Pat. She has shared with us her strong desire to return and assist during tax season, and we sincerely hope she will be able to do so. We look forward to welcoming her back if her health allows, and we appreciate your continued thoughts, patience, and kindness toward her.

Debbie Leazer will be preparing all tax returns, unless Ms. Pat is able to return

Happy New Year aka Happy Tax Time,
Welcome in 2025, out with the old, in with the new.
As of now there is no OFFICIAL start of tax season and the first day to file a federal tax return via E-File or mailed-in paper returns, the IRS will not accept and process tax returns until late January (date unknown as of today). I can prepare your taxes, offer you an Advance (through EPS), send them in, but the IRS will not send out acknowledgement of acceptance until the E-File System is officially opened.

The filing deadline for the regular tax season will be April 15th, 2025. Approved extension filings will be due by October 15th, 2025. We will not be automatically providing extensions unless you let us know if you need one, please if you think you need an extension for this year tell us before April 15th.

Pat and I will be preparing taxes this year and Caitlyn will be managing the office. Somebody will be around during normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 11 am to 6 pm.

I will be asking everyone to please send their documents to me prior to your appointment if possible, I am finding it harder to concentrate while carrying on a conversation and preparing your taxes at the same time. We will prepare your 2024 federal and state income tax returns. We will depend on you to provide the information we need to prepare complete and accurate returns. We may ask you to clarify some items but will not audit or otherwise verify the data you submit. If you need an Organizer to help your gather these forms you can request one by emailing [email protected] You may get your documents to us however is easiest for you (guest portal is preferred by us and the IRS or you may drop off to the green mailbox by the office.) This year we will not be taking in office appointments while prepping your taxes, You will need to get your documents to us first and once we have them prepared you will be able to schedule an appointment in office to go over them and sign before they are filed.

Debbie is off on Sundays and Mondays, and Pat is usually here on weekdays however that might change over the course of this year.

The IRS continues to scrutinize security protocols and wants everyone to use the portal to send their documents so NO, text or email. Everyone will be required to sign an engagement letter before tax prep is started.

We will be increasing our prices this year to cover the fact that everything I have to pay to prepare taxes has at least doubled in price since 2020, I have tried to go up gradually, but it still hasn’t been enough to cover my increases. The increase will be no more than 25% of what you paid last year. I believe this will be less than what you would pay anywhere else, it’s the only way I can stay in business and not continue to lose money. Unless you are using a bank product to get your refund, payment will be required before taxes are submitted, no exceptions.

First step If you are wanting us the prepare them is to contact us by text or email at [email protected] or text us 704-575-9396 and we will send your organizer and the engagement letter to sign along with the link for the portal https://leazertax.securefilepro.com/portal/ #/login to get your taxes started. You can send in as a guest, or we can set you up a login. Many have been using this for years so if you know how go ahead and start sending when you want.

But until both you and I both have a signed engagement letter your taxes will not be prepared. When your taxes have been finished you will always receive an acknowledgement via email that they have been filed. If you do not receive this acknowledgement, it means your taxes have not been filed and it’s best to call me to see why they have not been. Your taxes are your responsibility to make sure they are filed (they will penalize you not me) and this how you know they are.

Another new must do is set up an IDME Account at the IRS https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account it takes a few minutes but will most likely be harder in the future. I am impressed with the many items you can do on line there and the records you can obtain.

We want you to know we will do our absolute best to help you. We feel that in today’s society customer service in most companies has taken a turn for the worst. We want to do our best to provide each and every person here with great service, and if you have any complaints, please let us know. If you have contacted us and we have not responded, please call, text, or e-mail us within 24 hours to let us know. We are not ignoring you; we just get so many texts, calls and e-mails on a daily basis that some messages may be overlooked. – text is the best option for us – (704)-575-9369 Please just say “Call Me”.

Our parking situation is, like last year, going to be a little weird until we can fully get everything figured out. But for now, just know you can park in the back anywhere unless it is blocked off.

Anyone getting Child Tax Credit or Earned income credit will continue to expect their refunds at the end of February. We are offering different types of advances through EPS and will be glad to discuss them further with you. Normally we can deduct your tax preparation fees from your refund, but also last year we started offering Refund Advances which are a no cost/no interest loan or an interest-bearing loan. This advance is a loan and not your refund, then the Federal (and or) State refund(s) are used to repay this loan.
