Very proud of our own Frank Kimler's election to the National Honor Flight Leadership!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Honor Flight Network Elects Frank P. Kimler
as Vice Chairman of the Board

Arlington, VA (January 19, 2026)— Honor Flight Network is pleased to announce the election of Frank P. Kimler as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. Kimler has served on the National Honor Flight Network Board for six years as the organization’s treasurer, and brings deep expertise in nonprofit governance, finance, and tax-exempt organizations to the role.

Kimler has spent more than 25 years in public accounting, beginning his career at KPMG, LLP, and currently specializes in accounting and tax consulting for tax-exempt organizations and high net worth individuals at Nugent & Haeussler, PC, based in Montgomery, New York.

Kimler served as Chairman of Hudson Valley Honor Flight, Inc. (one of the Honor Flight Network’s more than 130 hubs) for 10 years, since the organization’s incorporation. Kimler also founded the Honor Flight’s out of Westchester County Airport, in White Plains, New York. His leadership at both the local and national levels has been instrumental in strengthening organizational sustainability and stewardship and brings a unique insight into this role.

A dedicated advocate for veterans, Kimler’s passion for honoring and serving those who have served our nation was instilled by his father and grandparents, who served during the Vietnam War and World War II. That legacy of service continues to guide his leadership and commitment to Honor Flight’s mission.

“I am deeply honored to serve as Vice Chairman of the Honor Flight Network,” said Kimler. “It is a privilege to be the vice chairman of an organization that so meaningfully honors our nation’s veteran heroes.”

“Frank’s financial expertise, nonprofit knowledge, and unwavering dedication to veterans make him an invaluable leader,” said Theresa Werner, Board Chair of Honor Flight Network. “We are grateful for his continued service and leadership as we work to expand our impact nationwide.”

Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring America’s veterans by providing free trips to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor.

The IRS will start the 2025 filing season for individual income tax returns on Jan. 27. Even if you usually don’t file until April, you may want to file early. It can potentially protect you from tax identity theft. In this crime, a thief uses your personal information to file a fraudulent return early in the filing season and claim a bogus refund. Another benefit of early filing is that if you’re getting a refund, you’ll get it faster. This year, the filing deadline to submit 2024 returns, file for an extension and pay tax owed is generally April 15. If you’re requesting an extension, you’ll have until Oct. 15 to file. Contact us for an appointment to prepare your return.

Many people are more concerned about their 2024 tax bills than they are about their 2025 tax situations. That’s because 2024 individual tax returns are due to be filed by April 15. However, it’s a good time to acquaint yourself with tax amounts for this year, some of which have increased due to inflation. For example, the amount of your earnings taxed for Social Security in 2025 is $176,100 (up from $168,600 in 2024). For 2025, the standard deduction amount is $30,000 for married joint filers (up from $29,200). For singles, the amount is $15,000 (up from $14,600) and for heads of households, it’s $22,500 (up from $21,900). Questions? Contact us.

You and your small business likely incur a variety of local transportation costs each year. Commuting costs aren’t deductible, but the cost of any local trips you take for business purposes is a deductible business expense. Your deduction can be computed using actual expenses or the standard mileage rate (for 2024, 67 cents per business mile) plus tolls and parking. Actual expenses include depreciation (subject to limitations), gas, repairs, maintenance, insurance, tolls, parking, loan interest and any other related costs allocable to the business portion of using the vehicle.

If you own a small business with no employees (other than your spouse) and want to set up a retirement plan, consider a solo 401(k) plan. This is also an option for self-employed individuals or business owners who wish to upgrade from a SIMPLE IRA or SEP plan. For 2024, you can make an elective deferral contribution of up to $23,000 of your net self-employment (SE) income ($30,500 if you’ll be 50 or older as of Dec. 31, 2024). On top of the elective amount, an extra contribution of up to 20% of your net SE income is allowed for solo 401(k)s. For 2024, the combined elective and extra contributions can’t exceed $69,000 ($76,500 for 50 or older) or 100% of net SE income. Questions? Contact us.

The deadline for calendar-year not-for-profits to file Form 990 with the IRS has come and gone. But it’s never too early to think about reporting responsibilities for the next deadline. Be careful to keep records of fundraising expenses, which you must report on Schedule G. If you have foreign operations, know that you’ll need to provide details about them. Do everything you can to prevent fraud or any illicit diversion of assets because you’ll have to report them, as well as any loans to disqualified persons. Work with us to help ensure you accurately track activities during the year and are prepared to file Form 990.
