During a bookkeeping cleanup call, a business owner asked me:
“Your reconciliation tolerance is $0.00. Mine shows $327.18. That’s close enough, right?”
I replied:
“It’s close… but it’s not correct.”
He said, “For me, close is OK.”
My answer was:
“Do you want to be close, or do you want to be confident?”
This moment captures a significant issue in small-business finances.
There is often a disconnect between:
Those swiping the card, those entering transactions, and those filing the taxes (or applying for loans).
And yet, all three depend on each other for reliable numbers.
When proven systems are followed consistently—clean chart of accounts, proper categorization, monthly reconciliations, and review—clarity becomes achievable.
Bookkeeping and Accounting for small businesses are not optional. It’s a requirement.
