The Monroe Cotton Mills is owned by Old Monroe Mills, LLC (OMMLLC). OMMLLC is a member managed Georgia Limited Liability Company owned and operated by Paul L. Paul with the help of his wife, Jessica, embarked upon the project of purchasing the old mill site off South Madison in the Mill District of Downtown Monroe more than two years ago. While the vision for the end product on the site continues
to evolve over time, their vision for the ultimate goal remains constant---to preserve an integral piece of the history of the City of Monroe. Paul, along with his father, Bob Rosenthal, and his brother, Dr. Mark Rosenthal, are the members of OMMLLC. Paul serves as the managing member, and is responsible for the day to day efforts of the restoration and preservation of the mill site as well as the marketing efforts to find new users for the site. Paul relies heavily on the input of his wife Jessica, his father and mother, Bob and Deanie, as well as his good friend, Chad Draper, local realtor and historic preservation enthusiast, for renovation, restoration and revitalization ideas for the Mill. In spite of the struggles of this current real estate market, Paul and his family remain committed to seeing the vision of this project through to reality. One day the Monroe Cotton Mills will be as busy a place as it once was more than one hundred years ago, albeit with different uses. Artisans using the old cotton warehouses for studios, the farmers’ market selling local homegrown fare, the payroll office housing young minds learning in preschool, the south end of the first floor hosting wedding receptions, the main floor home to an import/export specialist and the second floor buzzing with the unique homes of singles, young families and empty nesters alike in more than forty lofts. The Monroe Cotton Mills is an integral part of the history of Monroe. Today, thanks to the efforts of Paul and his family it becomes history revived. The Monroe Cotton Mills is a 250,000 square foot mixed-use revitalized commercial facility housed in the main building and outbuildings of the original 1895 cotton mill complex. The property was purchased from Avondale Mills, Inc. in 2008 to save it from demolition. Since that time the current owners have embarked upon a lengthy process to restore and revitalize the old mill and bring it back to its original grandeur and glory. The mill is now home to more than fifteen different entities and users of all types enjoying creative warehousing, retail and mercantile space of all shapes and sizes. The Monroe Cotton Mills still has some limited space available for creative arts and retail space as well as some dry storage space.
