Hi, my name is Gina Muigai and I'd like to share my story with you as I tell you what AfriMentor Consulting Group & The Gina Muigai Show means to me.
I grew up in Kenya, in the richest continent on earth where gold and diamond are found in villagers' backyards. I was born to a normal large African family with strong Christian values. After high school, I went to Asia and I currently live in America. My first-hand experience of the extreme difference between the world's most diverse cultures, that is in Africa, Asia and America opened me to a world I did not know existed. In each of the three continents, I did three things that have totally shifted my paradigm and worldview.
b) Run a business
c) Explored the impact of culture on economic development.
At a tender age, I was intrigued by the impact economy had on the lives of people seeing the despicable gap between to poor and the wealthy who seemingly had equal opportunities for the most part. At 19, I started my first business which exposed me to the depths of my ignorance. That discovery prompted me enroll to one of the best Business Schools in India, where I learned quite a lot double-majoring in Accounting and Finance. As a Kenyan girl, I did not have enough confidence to bank on what I had learned and soon after relocating to the US, I enrolled for a master's degree and then a doctorate degree, DBA - Economics, with the goal of acquiring tools to provide world's best and diverse business strategies with the goal of figuring how I can empower Africans to thrive in businesses and careers to compete at a global level while at the same time for the betterment of their lives. I am convinced that it is for lack of economic power that Africa has been stripped of her dignity.
While living in different parts of the world, I noticed that there were not many Africans, if any at all in higher-ranking positions in other continents as there were foreigners in African countries. Africans did not own thriving businesses even in our own countries, but foreigners did. As a matter of fact, Africans seemed to struggle a little more than others even when presented with equal opportunities under the same circumstances.
With my honorary business education background, experience as a founder of multiple businesses, and a good portfolio in Corporate America, I still struggled to make it. I embarked on figuring out what it was that was crippling my ability to achieve my goals and dreams. Looking around, the problem replicated itself in my fellow Africans and I realized that there was something deeper rooted in us that was neither addressed in schools nor by researchers or anyone out there. I discovered that while Africans were implementing solutions developed by others, other nations developed career and business solutions that were tailored to solve their specific deep-rooted problems. They developed these solutions around their strengths and way of life including culture while African have been busy implementing solutions that are not tailored to address our problems fully. With their attempt to help, they provide Africans with foreign solutions that do not and cannot solve our unique problems, because our root cause immensely differs from them. They would never take business solutions that work in Africa to use in America, but they expect Africans to use theirs. This is why Africans in the US among other parts of the world have been ranked as the most educated, yet the lowest paid employees, owning the least number of not-so-successful-businesses. Because there is a disconnect that that must be fixed first. And it can only be fixed by us, Africans.
With that, I set off on a personal mission to disrupt the status quo for Africans and I know how because I have lived it. I am helping all Africans in the US and from all over the world to start or grow their businesses and develop economically by providing them with unique strategies that are meant to move their businesses and ideas to the next level. I also help professionals position themselves to get the best jobs and get compensated well in return. And that is how AfriMentor Consulting Group (www.africg.com) was birthed, where I work with a team of intelligent and equally passionate professionals who believe in what every African has to offer and is ready to roll up their sleeves anytime to help our people achieve.
Then at The Gina Muigai Show (www.theginamuigaishow.com), I showcase the talents and achievements from our Africans communities with just one goal. To provide all Africans with tools, resources, ideas and connections that will inspire us to dream big and achieve our academic, career and business goals.
My approach inspires my clients to go beyond learning how to fish to owning the ponds altogether. I commit to empower and provide tools to Africans to contribute at their highest levels because as a result we will build our economy and develop the world. We can be free of colonialism, but if we are dependent financially, we are not free yet. I am bringing this freedom.
My approach asks the hard questions because today's companies, communities, and governments need to figure out how to solve seemingly systematic problems that are deeper rooted in the African culture. Problems that Africans experience when running their businesses and while pursuing their careers and ambitious goals are absolutely unique and cannot be solved by western solutions. Not even for the Africans living in western nations. I believe that we have the answers to the questions that throb us. Join me as we change the African narrative of needy and a poor continent.
I started βThe Gina Muigai Showβ to provide the tools to a larger African Audience so we can make this move together. My goal in this show is to provide all Africans with tools and resources that are going to help you achieve your academic, career and business goals.
Lots of Love and Gods blessings to you
