Whether you're spending time with family, traveling, or simply enjoying a well-deserved break, we hope it's a great one. As we do, we also take a moment to reflect with gratitude.

Your business has 14 tabs open.
None of them agree.

Many small business owners assume they have a profit problem.

More often, they have a visibility problem.

A few ways to improve financial clarity:

✓ Review financial reports monthly, not just during tax season

✓ Compare profit to cash (they are not the same thing)

✓ Make sure payroll and bookkeeping are aligned

✓ Use financial reports to make decisions, not just file taxes

✓ Build systems for the business you're becoming, not the business you used to be

Growth creates complexity.

More employees.
More payroll.
More tax obligations.
More moving pieces.

The businesses that scale the smoothest are rarely the ones working the hardest.

They're often the ones with the fewest financial blind spots.

💡 More revenue doesn't automatically create clarity.

Better financial systems do.

“Wait… so the business made money…
but the bank account is acting broke?”

This is EXACTLY where a lot of small business owners get frustrated.

Because profit does not equal cash.

So even when sales are up, cash can still feel tight because:
• payroll hits first
• taxes were never set aside
• clients pay late
• money gets reinvested immediately
• bills move faster than deposits do

Which leads to:
“Where did all the money go?”

And honestly?
Most businesses are not struggling because they are failing.

They are struggling because the financial systems behind the scenes are disconnected.

The businesses that feel the most “calm” financially usually:
✔️ track cash weekly
✔️ plan for taxes year round
✔️ tighten collections
✔️ connect bookkeeping + payroll + tax strategy together

Sometimes the issue is not profit.

It is timing, structure, and visibility.

CPA tip most business owners don’t hear:

If tax season felt harder than it should have…
it usually wasn’t taxes.

It was this:

Your numbers weren’t built to give clear answers quickly.

That’s why things felt off:

🔹 profit looked fine, but cash felt tight
🔹 everything was “there,” but took time to piece together
🔹 reports existed, but didn’t answer real questions
🔹 small gaps turned into big cleanups
🔹 digging through months of transactions to explain one number

Here’s the shift that changes everything:

Don’t just track your numbers.
Track them so they give clear answers, fast.

That means:

🔹 fully clean monthly reconciliations
🔹 clear separation of personal vs business
🔹 simple reports you actually use
🔹 knowing your cash before deadlines

And this part gets missed a lot:

🔹 setting aside taxes consistently, not last minute
🔹 reviewing your numbers quarterly, not just at year end

Most people look at their numbers to file taxes.

Stronger businesses use them to plan taxes ahead of time 💡

Taxes are filed… but is your business actually reset for the rest of the year? 👀

Many small business owners stop at filing, while unpaid invoices, cash flow issues, and missed opportunities keep building quietly. Now is the time to clean it up and move forward stronger.

Most Last Minute Filings Don’t Go Wrong Because People Are Lazy.

They go wrong because everything looks done… when it isn’t.

That last stretch before filing is where things quietly break:

• numbers that were never fully locked in
• accounts that weren’t actually reconciled
• payroll that “should be fine” but wasn’t checked

So people rush to file…

And end up fixing things later anyway.

If you’re filing in the next few days, this is what actually helps:

• Lock in real numbers (not estimates)
• Reconcile bank, credit cards, and loans
• Double check payroll against W-2s
• Focus on key documents only
• Don’t guess on deductions

Here’s what most people don’t realize:

• If your numbers change after filing, you’re not just fixing it
→ you’re amending, which takes time, money, and attention later

• Small payroll mismatches are one of the most common triggers for notices

• Filing fast with unclear numbers often costs more than filing a few days later with clarity

• If your books and tax strategy aren’t aligned, even correct numbers can still lead to missed opportunities

And the big one:

• An extension is not a failure
It’s often what separates a rushed return from a correct one

Most people try to fix everything.

That’s the mistake.

The ones who file with confidence focus on the few things that actually move the return forward.

We wanted our community to know: Minnesota's new Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) law is now in effect — and if you run a home care agency, your first quarterly premium payment is due April 30, 2026.

That's less than a month away.

Here's what this means for you😀→ Withhold 0.88% of each employee's gross wages
→ Employer contribution required (unless under 30 employees)
→ Missing the deadline means penalties — even if you didn't know

If you're not sure whether your payroll is set up correctly, now is the time to find out.
