To open a Trump Account (a tax-advantaged investment account for U.S. citizens under 18), parents or legal guardians must first register for the account and submit IRS Form 4547. This can be done online through the Trump Accounts Portal or by filing with your tax return.The step-by-step process to open an account:Gather Information: You will need your child's valid Social Security Number and date of birth, along with an ID.me account to verify your own identity.Submit Form 4547: Fill out and submit IRS Form 4547 to elect to open the account. If your child was born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, you can also use this form to request the $1,000 federal pilot program contribution.Activate the Account: Once your registration is processed, you will receive an activation email from the U.S. Treasury. Follow the email instructions to complete the setup via the official Trump Accounts app (available on iOS and Android) or the Trump Account Web Portal.Fund the Account: You can start making personal contributions (up to $5,000 per year) and the federal $1,000 seed deposit will be deposited into the child's account.
