The IRS has announced that the 1040 filing season will start on Feb 12. This is the latest tax season has started in recent memory, and will likely make for an adventuresome 2 months for the countdown to Apr 15.

But don't wait! You can still start the process and gather forms, even schedule an appointment. Once e-Filing opens on Feb 12, any returns already in queue will be sent as soon as the IRS is ready.

IR-2021-16, January 15, 2021 — The Internal Revenue Service announced that the nation's tax season will start on Friday, February 12, 2021, when the tax agency will begin accepting and processing 2020 tax year returns.

Singing the Stimulus Check blues? Most taxpayers will have already received their second round Stimulus Check by now, and the IRS is supposed to finish up by Jan 15 so to not interfere with the tax season that just started. Taxpayers that don’t get their check now will still have an opportunity to qualify when they file their 2020 tax return in the coming months.
