You could end up paying too much out to FIRPTA if you don't calculate the gain right. Make sure you plan properly so that you don't pay too much tax, and end up leaving money on the table.

If you're now a Florida resident but you owe back taxes to the State of New York, they will pursue you for that money. Since your income was sourced in New York, it is New York's right to collect that money.
