On this President's Day, we honor the legacy of those who have held the highest office in our land. Their sacrifices, leadership, and courage in the face of immense responsibility are unmatched.

From the very first president to today, each leader has taken on a job that is often dangerous, demanding, and fraught with challenges. Their unwavering commitment to this country has helped position the United States as one of, if not the greatest place on God's green earth.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all past and current presidents for their service, vision, and dedication to the freedoms we cherish. Thank you for leading with purpose and pride.

🌍 Divergence in Global Sovereign Long-End Yields: What Does It Mean for Investors in 2025?

As we move into early 2025, we see a clear divergence in global sovereign long-end yields has begun. While countries like China, Korea, and India have seen underlying bids for their longer duration bonds, yields in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Japan, and the United States have been on the rise.

Why is this happening? 🤔 What do you think are the key drivers here?

How do fiscal policy, growth, and inflation expectations in 2025 influence where the best opportunities lie?

As we look ahead, these market shifts beg the question: Where should future capital be allocated across geographies and asset classes? The global bond market is showing us that not all yields are created equal – and where you invest could significantly shape
your 2025 returns.

💭 We’d love to hear your thoughts! How are you adjusting your portfolio based on these trends?

Since just before the 2024 election, interest rate volatility, as measured by the MOVE Index, has collapsed.

Was this truly a "buy the rumor, sell the news" moment? Many financial and betting markets were pricing in a President Trump victory, which has now materialized with the election of President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Pre-election, were markets implying that the possibility of a Harris presidency would trigger significantly higher rate volatility? With that concern now off the table, does this imply markets are confident that the Trump administration means we should expect a lower rate volatility environment?

Is this because markets believe that President Trump will be able to reduce fiscal deficits and deleverage the U.S. government, or are investors considering the potential for further debt monetization and yield curve control?

With President Trump being provided with a mandate by the America people, markets might be suggesting that he is now able to focus solely on policy in a second term, as opposed to having to dedicate time to reelection campaigns.

What are the implications of this for broader asset markets? Will rate volatility remain subdued, or are we headed toward another phase of turbulence like 2022?

Let us know your thoughts.

Today, on , we honor the brave men and women who have selflessly served our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment have shaped the freedoms we hold dear. As we reflect on their service, let's also take a moment to embrace the values they embody - honor, resilience, and service to others.

It's not enough to just remember; it's our responsibility to support and uplift our veterans every day. Whether it's through a simple thank you, advocating for their needs, or volunteering with veteran organizations, we all have a role to play.

Let’s carry forward the spirit of service and make the world a better place - just as our veterans have.

Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. It is a day etched into our collective memory, marking the profound loss of thousands of innocent lives and the unyielding bravery of countless first responders and heroes who rose to the occasion.

We honor the loved ones we lost, whose memories continue to inspire us, and we pay tribute to the selflessness of those who rushed into danger to save others. Their courage and sacrifice serve as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience that define us as a nation.

As we reflect on this solemn day, let us carry forward the spirit of bravery and determination exemplified by the heroes of 9/11. Their actions remind us that, even in the darkest times, we have the capacity to overcome adversity and emerge stronger.

When a crisis occurs, let us all have the bravery, courage, and spirit of those who responded and served our country honorably on September 11th, 2001, and the days, weeks, months, and years following.

If there is any solace we all can find from this day in American history, we can recognize that “Hard times create strong men."

Strong men create good times.

Recession = End of the World????

Coming out of an era where most of us alive have lived through traumatic financial events such as the 2008 Financial Crisis (i.e. The Great Recession) and the COVID-19 Lockdown recession, we’d argue that many professionals are suffering from PTSD and have Recency Bias.

The past two recessions that we have experienced in the United States have actually been quite different than many of the other recessionary periods we have seen previously. Most notably, these recent recessions have been marked by significant deflation, resulting in abnormal negative nominal YoY GDP growth.

Historically, US nominal GDP growth has tracked, on average, approximately 6.4% year over year, dating back to the early 1950’s. Even during prior "recessionary periods", we see that businesses, consumers and the US economy broadly has shown incredible resilience and has continued to grow despite "tough times".

With this being said, we realize that we must ask ourselves a simple question. If we do end up in a recession in the United States in the coming years, is it really the End of the World?

Should the Federal Reserve have already cut interest rates?

Recent data as provided by Truflation is indicating that the notable disinflationary trend in the United States is continuing even further, leading us to ask the question: Is the Federal Reserve "Ahead of the Curve"?

At year-over-year inflation of just 1.45%, we've recently broken below the Federal Reserve's target mandate of 2.00%.

As we assess the situation, the question on many minds is: When will the Federal Reserve start cutting rates? And if they do, what magnitude of rate cuts can we expect?

Will cuts be incremental, perhaps in 25 basis point intervals, or might the Fed opt for more substantial adjustments to monetary policy?

What effects will a positive real interest rate at current levels have on the US economy? Where should real rates ultimately end up? What does this mean for investors taking on duration vs. credit risk?

In light of these considerations, Eurodollar Futures emerge as a compelling investment or portfolio hedge to educate oneself about and explore.

What are your thoughts on when the Fed might cut rates, and what magnitude of rate cuts do you anticipate?

On this MLK Day, let's take a moment to honor a man whose commitment to freedom made a lasting impact on our nation.

Dr. King's willingness to stand up for what he believed was right, persistence in the face of challenges and determination to do so in a positive and productive manner serves as an inspiration for us all. Let this day be a reminder to us that every American has the potential to achieve greatness.

As we commemorate his legacy, let's renew our dedication to a society that values hard work, achievement, and the principles that have made America exceptional.

Let us all have dreams and work to make those dreams a reality.

Is it time to fade/short equities in the energy space?

We think so…

Crude oil prices have not yet seemed to have found a bottom and heading into an election year, lower energy/gas prices are often beneficial for the incumbent.

With a lack of significant leverage in the space, you may not want to bet on many of these names going to $0, however, downside price risk appears to be in the cards.
