If you have been listening to the Presidential debates you have heard a lot of jabs back and forth about taxes.

I am tired of hearing all the political inaccuracies and decided to hold a tax update seminar to peel back all the political jargon and let you know that 100% of all small business owners will see their TAX BURDEN increase because the “Bush Tax Cuts” have already started expiring (even if Romney wins the election). And, this applies to EVERYBODY who pays taxes not just those making $250,000 or more.

I am holding a FREE one hour Tax seminar on Oct 25th or Nov 1st at 1:00pm.

If you are interested you can register: http://www.boisetaxseminar.com/

Taking the Confusion out of 1099’s

There is still much confusion in regards to who needs to receive a 1099. And Congress complicated when they considered broad changes to the reporting requirements. This new law would have made issuing 1099’s significantly more cumbersome for the business owner. The good news is the proposed law was largely repealed with only minor changes. This year you will receive a newly created 1099K if you process payments through a credit card machine or an online payment processor.

Remember you still have to issue a 1099 to anyone who was not an employee and performed services for your business and received over $600. You do not have to issue 1099’s to corporations. Keep in mind that non-employee compensation is not the only one who is supposed to receive a 1099 – others include payments for rent of over $600 and payments to an attorney of over $600.

1099’s are to be filed by January 31st to the recipient and February 28 to the IRS.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

As many of you know Congress recently voted to temporarily extend the payroll tax cut law which reduces the employees Social Security tax withholding rate from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent of wages paid through Feb. 29, 2012.

This leaves somewhat of a planning opportunity as you could accelerate what you pay yourself on an annual basis into the first two months of the year and save 2 percent. By simply changing the timing of when you pay yourself you save the money.

Just something to think about!
