This is good information, but from my point of view as a professional tax preparer, this delay is longer than it has ever been, and I do not think it is because of credits. I have seen refunds issued to taxpayers who did not claim these credits, but this lag time is much longer than usual. Usually, those refunds with credits such as the EITC, Child Tax Credit, and or Advance Child Tax Credits do get a little more scrutiny and are late but still issued during the first two weeks of February; however, we are now almost into March. I am not being a conspiracy theorist, but this is not normal.
The EITC helps low-to-moderate income workers and families get a tax break to reduce the taxes they owe or possibly receive a larger refund.
