Getting PATH message on WMR does not mean you are good or finished....it means the system identified you have the held credits and you will not know your actual status until after today! Many people have moved to problematic screens when it has lifted previous years. Not everyone will get PATH message and that is also completely normal. Think of PATH message as a curtain covering your actual status and once lifted whatever your status is will be revealed.

This was just released by the IRS. Eligible parents of children born in 2021 and families that added dependents in 2021 should claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit; most other eligible people already received the full amount and won’t need to claim a credit on their tax return

The third-round Economic Impact Payment was an advance payment of the tax year 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. The amount of the third-round Economic Impact Payment was based on the income and number of dependents listed on an individual’s 2019 or 2020 income tax return. The amount of the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit is based on the income and number of dependents listed on an individual’s 2021 income tax return.

Families and individuals in the following circumstances, among others, may not have received the full amount of their third-round Economic Impact Payment because their circumstances in 2021 were different than they were in 2020. These families and individuals may be eligible to receive more money by claiming the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 income tax return:

• Parents of a child born in 2021 who claim the child as a dependent on their 2021 income tax return may be eligible to receive a 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit of up to $1,400 for this child.

o All eligible parents of qualifying children born in 2021 are also encouraged to claim the child tax credit—worth up to $3,600 per child born in 2021—on their 2021 income tax return.

• Families who added a dependent – such as a parent, a nephew or niece, or a grandchild – on their 2021 income tax return who was not listed as a dependent on their 2020 income tax return may be eligible to receive a 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit of up to $1,400 for this dependent.

• Single filers who had incomes above $80,000 in 2020 but less than this amount in 2021; married couples who filed a joint return and had incomes above $160,000 in 2020 but less than this amount in 2021; and head of household filers who had incomes above $120,000 in 2020 but less than this amount in 2021 may be eligible for a 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit of up to $1,400 per person.

• Single filers who had incomes between $75,000 and $80,000 in 2020 but had lower incomes in 2021; married couples who filed a joint return and had incomes between $150,000 and $160,000 in 2020 but had lower incomes in 2021; and head of household filers who had incomes between $112,500 and $120,000 in 2020 but had lower incomes in 2021 may be eligible for a 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit.

Individuals must claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 income tax return in order to get this money; the IRS will not automatically calculate the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. The IRS began accepting 2021 income tax returns on January 24.

Most other eligible people already received the full amount of their credit in advance and don't need to include any information about this payment when they file their 2021 tax return. The IRS issued additional payments – called “Plus-Up” Payments – to individuals who initially received a third-round Economic Impact Payment based on information on their 2019 tax return and were eligible for a larger amount based on information on their 2020 tax return.

Those that haven't filed yet don't forget to wait for your interest form from the IRS if you received your refund last season after the tax season ended or you received the unemployment break refund after the end of tax season. You have to pay taxes on that interest... please don't file without it.

Let me try and explain what is happening with the ones with child credits getting there refund dates. When Congress made the Child Tax Credit (CTC) fully refundable this year. They effectively removed the Additional child tax credit (ACTC). Making it not covered under the PATH act. In a typical year ACTC is the refundable portion of the CTC. So those with CTC and no EIC are getting direct deposit dates. Those who have EIC are still held under the PATH act.

🚨Michigan Unemployment Recipients

The 1099-G forms, usually mailed to residents by Jan. 31, won't arrive until late February after the Unemployment Insurance Agency gained an extension from the Internal Revenue Service due to historically high amounts of unemployment fraud in the state.

🚨Please keep in mind that returns with earned income credit are held until mid-late February anyway. Please DO NOT file without including this information. Your refunds will be held up for wage inaccuracies and could take MONTHS to resolve.

If you're self-employed or have a side hustle and get paid through digital apps like PayPal, Cash App or Venmo, any earnings over $600 will now have to be reported to the IRS. A provision from the 2021 American Rescue Plan, which went into effect on Jan. 1, directs third-party payment processors to report transactions received for goods or services totaling over $600 per year to the IRS.

Prior to this legislation, a third-party payment platform would only report to the tax agency if a user had more than 200 commercial transactions and made more than $20,000 in payments over the course of a year.

This new law won't apply to your 2021 taxes, which you'll file this tax season. But it will apply to the earnings you make throughout 2022, which you'll report when you file in 2023.

There's a lot of talk online about this new tax reporting requirement and if you earn money through a digital payment app, you may be confused about what's true and what isn't. Let's separate the fact from the fiction.

Good morning, let’s just throw the facts out there so y’all won’t be misled by the false advertisement used for click bait‼️👏🏽

🚨🚨🚨On behalf of all the tax preparers that serve low and middle income taxpayers, I think we can all agree to the following info:

🤔🚨 Will the average taxpayer be getting a $64k check from the IRS , yeahhhh um 😐 NO !

🚨🚨 In the example that’s going viral as I type this, the example is based on $500k income (which by the way only about roughly 6-7% of taxpayers income is over that amount 🙄 and even less for self employed, but go off)

🚨🚨🚨 But THIS is real life example of the Form 7202 better known as the Sick Leave Credit for self employed individuals.

🚨🚨🚨🚨 A person grossing $18,908 from their side hustle(pink Arrow) and the amounts in yellow is what the credit generated based on the days put in. The total amount for this credit is $2,690 based on this example nowhere near $64k!!
