🚨 New Scam Alert!
Scammers are targeting people by pretending to be state revenue departments. They're sending fake messages like the one below, trying to trick you into giving up your personal or banking information. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK, and NEVER provide your bank or card details in response to unsolicited messages.
Remember: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or any State Department of Revenue will NEVER contact you via text or phone to ask for payment or bank information. Any official correspondence will always come by mail.
Example of a Fake Scam Message:
“Mississippi Department of Revenue
Your tax refund request has been processed and approved. Please provide valid payment information by October 13, 2025. After confirmation, funds will be deposited into your bank account or mailed to you as a paper check within 1-2 business days.
[Link]
Failure to submit the required payment information by October 13, 2025, will result in permanent forfeiture of this refund under Mississippi Code §27-7-313.
Reply "Y," then close and reopen this message to activate the link. If the issue persists, copy and paste the link directly into your browser.”
Important Warning:This message is NOT from the Mississippi Department of Revenue. It’s a scam!
📍What to Do:
1. Do not click the link or provide any personal information.
2. Block the sender and report the message to your local authorities or the real State Department of Revenue.
3. If you suspect you've been targeted, contact the relevant state agency directly using their official contact information.
