Hanover Personal Financial Services wants to remind friends and neighbors to help take care of one another and support local businesses. Our kids are out of school for the rest of the year, and non-essential businesses are closed. So, it’s tempting to close ourselves off until things blow over. But we also have an opportunity to step up, make a difference, and really care for one another.

It doesn’t take much for us to talk briefly to our neighbor while standing on the porch or in the yard. How about that elderly couple or widow/widower on the street, on the block, in the cul-de-sac: Do they need anything?

Maybe you can pick up meds for them or add something to your shopping list, so they don’t have to go out. Perhaps there’s a bit extra in your pantry or hall closet that you can share. Really, it doesn’t take much when you think about it. Just a few minutes of our time.

Probably the most important thing we can do is treat each other kindly, to use words of encouragement, to speak life to one another. Don’t let someone think they are all alone, or that no one cares. We should be careful to use our words to build one another up and to encourage and reassure.

Finally, we should think about supporting the small businesses in our neighborhoods. So, Hanover Personal Financial Services humbly asks that you consider using us to file your federal and state income taxes. Hanover Personal Financial Services understands and shares your concerns over the Coronavirus Pandemic. It has added uncertainty and a bit of fear to our family as well as many others in our area. But, together, we can overcome the fear of our current situation, persevere, and come out better in the end.

HPFS has always offered in home appointments to customers. This has been the preferred method for tax customers, financial planning clients, and investment advisory services in the past. With the current situation, increased difficulty in traveling, and customers' desire to keep a respectful social distance, everyone should know that HPFS can operate remotely to process and file your federal and state income tax returns. For the short term, Hanover Personal Financial Services is making this appointment policy the preferred method of meeting with clients: Personal pick up and delivery of your documents with a written summary and telephone review.

Implementing this policy will limit personal exposure to our clients while still meeting documentary and “know your customer” requirements. This will ensure accurate tax returns, financial plans, and investment recommendations without compromising the fiduciary responsibility promised to customers.

Hanover Personal Financial Services will still process tax returns remotely, operating by either secure email or direct mail, and will still schedule face to face appointments with customers that want them for taxes, financial planning, or investment advice. How much does it cost to have your taxes prepared? A lot more than what you will pay at HPFS! Here's four different sources:

Investopedia reports the national average is $188 for a standard return. Itemized is $294.
The Balance says the national average is $176 if you don't itemize, $273 if you do.
Creditkarma has the same numbers as Investopedia, $188 for not itemized, $294 for an itemized return. Plus $100-200 extra for additional schedules.
Dave Ramsey lists prices by region, with an average in Virginia of $268.

National Blog, Taxserviceprices.com reports minimum cost at H&R block starts at $125, Jackson Hewitt at $135, and Liberty Tax at a whopping $230!!
