🚨 Overtime Pay & Taxes – Let’s Clear Up the Confusion! 🚨

There’s been a LOT of misinformation floating around about overtime and taxes. Let’s break down the myths vs. reality 👇

❌ Myth: All overtime pay is tax-free.
✅ Reality: Only the “premium” portion (the extra 0.5x — not the full 1.5x rate) may qualify for the deduction.

❌ Myth: You pay no taxes on overtime at all.
✅ Reality: Overtime is STILL subject to Social Security, Medicare, and possibly state & local taxes.

❌ Myth: The deduction is automatic for everyone.
✅ Reality: It is NOT automatic. Phase-outs apply if your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) exceeds:
• $150,000 (Single)
• $300,000 (Married Filing Jointly)

❌ Myth: Married couples can file separately and still claim it.
✅ Reality: Married taxpayers must file a joint return to claim the deduction.

❌ Myth: It applies to all extra hours worked.
✅ Reality: It only applies to qualified overtime required under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

📢💸 Important IRS Update: No More Mailed Refund Checks for Most Taxpayers

The IRS is officially phasing out paper refund checks starting with the 2026 filing season (for 2025 tax returns). 📬❌

Here’s what this means:
💻 Most refunds will be issued electronically — direct deposit, prepaid debit card, or other secure digital options.
🏦 Providing your bank account info when filing will now be the standard way to receive your refund.
⚠️ A few exceptions may apply for taxpayers without bank accounts or those unable to receive electronic payments.

As always, I’ll keep you updated as IRS guidance continues to roll out. If you’re unsure how this affects you or your business, feel free to reach out! 💬🤝

‼️Just a reminder‼️ We need your tax documents by the end of this week. Yes….that goes for extensions too! If we receive your tax documents after March 22, 2024, it is likely we will need to file an extension on your behalf. PLEASE note, an extension is an extension of time to file, NOT an extension of time to pay. If you believe you will owe federal or state income tax, I recommend making a payment when the extension is filed. If your documents are received after March 22, 2024, we will not be able to estimate your tax due.
