If you only followed social media (and some headlines), you’d think younger generations are falling behind.

The data says otherwise.

Progress hasn’t stopped, just slowed. Each generation has still seen higher real income than the one before, even after accounting for rising education costs.

"We find that Millennials had a real median household income that was 20% higher than that of the previous generation, a slowdown from the growth rate of the Silent Generation (36%) and Baby Boomers (26%), but similar to that of Generation X (16%). The slowdown for younger generations largely resulted from stalled growth in work hours among women. Progress for Millennials younger than 30 has also remained robust, though largely due to greater reliance on their parents. Additionally, lifetime income gains for younger generations far outweigh their higher educational costs."

In a matter of weeks, markets can be hit with politics, war, economic surprises, and wild price swings all at once.

But this chaos isn’t rare. It’s the norm.

Fascinating study showing that money can buy happiness, but not while you're earning it!

“The more people earn, the happier they tend to be. But when they are actually at work, more money is not associated with greater happiness.”

More money can buy a bigger house or a better car, but it can’t buy a nicer boss, says Wharton’s Matt Killingsworth.

The Iran conflict pushing oil above $100 has investors worried, but this isn’t 2008. The U.S. is now a net energy exporter, so higher prices can actually support domestic growth and help stabilize the economy.

CNBC will find a negative in anything positive in the markets. Another reason to turn off the financial networks.

Who cares if stocks are down for the month? It’s one month and that’s a minute for the long-term investor.

The average person works 40 - 45 years before retirement.

Why in the world would anyone want a 50-year mortgage which lasts longer than their working years?

Money vs. Memories

People often hesitate to spend money today on meaningful experiences - afraid it’ll derail their savings or investment goals.

But let’s put it in perspective.

Say you invested $3,000 in a 60/40 portfolio.
In 10 years, it might grow to around $6,400.

Or…

You could spend that money today on a once-in-a-lifetime experience - a trip with your kids, a visit to see aging parents, a gift for your spouse...a moment that means everything.

Which would you remember more?

The money may grow.
But the return on that memory could last a lifetime.

When was the last time you chose memories over money?

I’m hate these headlines. “Stocks slip” - they’ve barely moved down and then this is just normal market fluctuation. But they’ve gotta put a little bit of fear in everybody.
