Have you decided to do your own bookkeeping? You don’t need anything fancy—just a few solid basics to get going:

✔️ A simple system (like QuickBooks Online or even a spreadsheet)
✔️ A separate business bank account
✔️ A way to track income & expenses consistently
✔️ A habit of reconciling your accounts monthly
✔️ A place to store receipts (digital is best 🙌)

When you’re just starting out, doing your own books can save money and help you really understand your numbers.

But as your business grows… your time becomes more valuable.

That’s when it makes sense to hand it off to a good bookkeeper—so you can get back to focusing on what actually grows your business 💡

If you’re a business owner, here’s the truth most people don’t realize:

👉 You don’t hire a bookkeeper or an accountant.
👉 You need both—but for very different reasons.

Let’s break it down in a way that actually makes sense 👇

Your Bookkeeper = The Backbone of Your Business

Your bookkeeper is in your business every single month (sometimes weekly or even daily)

They:
* Track your income & expenses (accurately 👏)
* Reconcile your accounts so nothing is missed
* Keep your books clean, organized, and up to date
* Help you understand where your money is actually going
* Catch mistakes before they turn into expensive problems

💡 Think of your bookkeeper as your financial GPS—they keep you on track in real time.

Without a bookkeeper?You’re guessing.And guessing with money gets expensive fast.

———————————————————————————————

📈 Your Accountant = The Strategist

Your accountant typically steps in periodically (often once or twice a year)

They:
* File your taxes
* Help with tax strategy and compliance
* Advise on big financial decisions
* Make sure you’re following IRS rules

💡 Think of your accountant as your financial architect—they design the big picture.

———————————————————————————————

🚨 Here’s the Part Most Business Owners Get Wrong

Your accountant can only work with what they’re given.

If your books are:
* Messy
* Incomplete
* Or totally outdated

👉 Your accountant is either:
* Charging you MORE to fix it
* Or filing based on bad data

Which means:
* You could overpay in taxes 💸
* Or worse… raise red flags 🚩

———————————————————————————————

💥 Why the Bookkeeper Is Actually ESSENTIAL

A great bookkeeper:
* Saves you money before tax season
* Gives you monthly clarity, not yearly surprises
* Helps your accountant do their job better (and cheaper)
* Turns your numbers into decisions—not confusion
👉 Your accountant is only as powerful as your bookkeeping.

———————————————————————————————

💬 The Simple Way to Think About It

* Bookkeeper = Day-to-day clarity
* Accountant = Big-picture strategy

But if you had to pick the one that keeps everything running smoothly?

👉 It’s your bookkeeper. Every time.

If your books aren’t clean, nothing else works the way it should.
And that’s exactly why a bookkeeper isn’t just helpful…

They’re essential.

Assets vs. Expenses… let’s make this SIMPLE 👇

💰 Assets = things you OWN that have value
Think: cash, equipment, inventory, accounts receivable
👉 They help your business in the future

💸 Expenses = money you SPEND to run your business
Think: rent, software, payroll, office supplies
👉 They help your business right now

✨ Easy way to remember:
Assets = “keeps value”
Expenses = “consumes value”

If you’re treating everything like an expense… you might be missing the full picture of your business 👀

Your Balance Sheet… in plain English 👇

Think of your business like a snapshot in time 📸

Your balance sheet shows 3 things:

💰 What you OWN (Assets)
→ cash, equipment, inventory

💳 What you OWE (Liabilities)
→ loans, credit cards, bills

📊 What’s LEFT for YOU (Equity)
→ your ownership in the business

The simple formula:

Assets – Liabilities = Equity

Real life example:

If your business has:
• $10,000 in the bank
• $4,000 in debt

👉 You actually “own” $6,000

Why it matters:

Your balance sheet tells you:
✔️ If your business is healthy
✔️ If you’re growing your wealth
✔️ If you can afford big decisions

Bottom line:
It’s not just about how much you make…
It’s about what you actually KEEP 💡

🐀📦 It’s National Pack Rat Day… but let’s NOT celebrate like it’s 1995.

If your office looks like a paper explosion 💥—receipts in drawers, invoices in stacks, random sticky notes everywhere—you’re not alone.

AND you don’t have to live like that anymore!!

We are in the ✨ digital age, my friend.

No more:
🚫 digging through piles to find “that one receipt from March”
🚫 filing cabinets that haven’t been opened since 2018
🚫 shoeboxes full of mystery expenses

Instead, imagine this:
✔️ Every receipt snapped, saved, and searchable
✔️ Every transaction neatly organized in QuickBooks Online
✔️ Reports at your fingertips (without the paper cuts 😅)

Less clutter. Less stress. WAY more clarity.

And the best part?
You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Because I love messy books (seriously—it’s like a puzzle 🧩), and I’ll help you turn that paper chaos into a clean, organized, digital system that actually works for your business.

So in honor of Pack Rat Day…
Let’s retire the piles and upgrade the processes 🙌

Comment DIGITAL if you're ready to ditch the paper mess and finally feel in control of your numbers.

One of the most common DIY bookkeeping mistakes with sales tax?

Recording it as an expense!

Sales tax isn’t an expense . . . it’s a liability.

If your business is collecting sales tax, you are simply holding that money on behalf of your states tax authority until it’s time to pay it.

This also means the sales tax you collect from customers is not income to your business either. It’s simply a short-term liability on your books.

When you file and pay your sales tax, that liability decrease.

If that made your head spin, it might be time to bring in a bookkeeper. This is the kind of thing we do all day long.

Tax season is OVER 🎉
…and your CPA just closed your file like:

“we need to talk about your life choices…” 😅

Here’s the deal…
. . when your books are a hot mess, your CPA has to:

🕵️‍♀️ play detective
🧩 solve the world’s most confusing puzzle
📦 unpack 12 months of “what even is this charge??”

…and every extra minute of that = 💸💸💸

(Translation: you’re paying CPA prices for cleanup work 😬)

BUT . . . when you have a bookkeeper all year?

✨ Your books are clean
✨ Everything is categorized
✨ No financial crime scene to investigate

Which means your CPA spends LESS time . . .
= you spend LESS money 🙌

So really, hiring a bookkeeper is just you saying:
“I would like to keep my money, thank you.” 😂

A balance sheet provides a snapshot of a company's financial position, showing its assets, liabilities, and equity at a specific time. It follows the equation: Assets = Liabilities + Equity.

Key Components:
Assets: What the company owns, divided into current (e.g., cash, receivables) and non-current (e.g., property).

Liabilities: What the company owes, categorized into current (e.g., short-term debts) and non-current (e.g., long-term loans).

Equity: The owners' stake in the company, including retained earnings.

The importance of the Balance Sheet is to know your businesses financial health and be able to track and visualize your growth over time. Understanding your balance sheet aids in making informed decisions about investing, lending, and overall financial management.
