The loss of a loved one or a divorce can involve a movement of wealth to someone who has never experienced it before. This shift can be life-changing, but may also involve a burden of emotions and feelings of obligation.

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to talk with Jason Hafeman on Let's Get Local about how important it is to talk through the emotions following a big life transition and new wealth. I'm here to listen, as well as help you find the path to your fulfilling life, while also navigating investments, tax implications and other responsibilities that come with this life change.

Often, there is a triggering event (loss of a loved one, a new job, marriage, divorce, retirement) that prompts someone to contact a financial adviser, and sometimes it's a triggering event that nudges us to make any changes in life.

Last week, Channel 3 in Madison contacted me to ask for an interview, and they wanted to film in my office. I realized it was finally time to get that painting on the wall that's just been waiting to be hung.

I present this piece by my friend Paul. Paul and I marched together in the University of Wisconsin Marching Band. When the pandemic began, he found that watching Bob Ross episodes helped to reduce his stress levels, and after a while, he thought that maybe he should give this painting thing a try.

This amazing piece is exactly what I wanted in my office. When life became challenging, Paul chose to do something to take care of himself and to try something new. By doing so, he created beauty.

Paul didn't know he had it in him, but he kept trying. These are the conversations I have with my clients during challenging times. This is the evolution we need sometimes. Sometimes it's the challenging times that can make us stronger and bring out the beauty.

It was such an honor serving as a Quizmaster for the state championships of the Asset Builders Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl yesterday. These high school students should be so proud of their performance.

Congratulations to first place Sun Prairie and second place Monroe!

Thank you to Asset Builders for providing programs like this for our high schoolers and thank you to all the teachers who put in the time and effort to help these kids start a bright future!

Happy Giving Tuesday! There are so many amazing organizations out there who could use some support, and I have pledged to donate a portion of my revenue every year. Since this wouldn't be possible without my clients, I ask them to vote for their choice out of three.

This year they chose Alliance for the Great Lakes, which is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the waters of the Great Lakes.

The other two organizations people could vote for were Path Forward, which is an organization helping people restart their careers after taking some time off for caregiving, and Carbone Cancer Center, which is a cancer research center. I will link to both of those organizations in the comments.

If you are so moved, I encourage you to share some of your resources with organizations you care about.
