Evelyn Rozenkvit and Mary Green proudly represented SVA at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Annual Scholarship Awards Celebration on May 7, 2026.

We were honored to celebrate Megan Hermes, one of our Spring 2026 interns, as the recipient of the SVA CPAs Scholarship.

We’re also excited to recognize two incoming Spring 2027 interns, Mady Lockman and Thomas Millard, who received scholarships for their outstanding achievements.

💰 A step-up in basis can unlock valuable tax savings opportunities

A step-up happens when an asset’s tax basis is increased to match its fair market value at a certain point in time.

For example, a taxpayer buys stock for $100, and it grows to $500. If they sell it, they may owe tax on the $400 gain. But if a beneficiary inherits it, the basis may step up to $500, potentially reducing or eliminating taxable gain if sold soon after.

This same concept can apply to real estate, business interests, and securities.
