Please make sure you’re checking your bank accounts this week because some state refunds are starting to be issued and deposits are hitting accounts now!

If you selected direct deposit, keep an eye on your transactions and notifications. Some deposits may post at different times depending on your bank.

IRS & STATE OF MICHIGAN TAX UPDATES:

It is NOT to late to file. The IRS is open all year. If you are due a refund, there is no penalty. If you owe, internet is now being added daily.

The IRS issues most federal tax refunds within 21 days for electronically filed returns with direct deposit. Paper returns or those requiring manual review take longer, often 6–8 weeks or more. You can check your status at the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool.

Why Verification Might Feel Excessive:
Early Filing: Many notifications to verify are sent to early filers whose wage information (W-2s/1099s) has not yet been fully processed by the IRS, prompting a check to ensure the return is legitimate.
New Patterns: Changes in address, filing status, or unusual income patterns can trigger these requests.
Security Concerns: The IRS is increasingly targeted by bot attacks, and this increased scrutiny is designed to stop fraudulent, stolen-identity returns.

Key Details on Michigan Tax Returns:
Why Returns Are Pending: The state is reviewing returns for accuracy, which may cause delays, particularly for early filers.
Wait Times: Electronic filings generally take 4-6 weeks, while paper returns take 6-8 weeks, though delays can extend this, sometimes requiring up to 16 weeks for review.

If you’re not ready to file your taxes yet, don’t panic. The IRS allows a 6-month extension.

BUT a lot of people misunderstand this…

An extension gives you more time to FILE your return,
NOT more time to PAY taxes owed.

If you owe, the IRS still wants their money by the deadline.

If you need me to file your extension before the deadline hits, message me so we can get it done.

The Michigan Department of Treasury has started releasing Michigan state refunds, but they are being processed in batches, so not everyone will receive theirs at the same time.

Here’s what we’re currently seeing:

• Early filers are beginning to receive deposits first• Many returns are still under review or processing• Refunds are being released in waves as they finish processing

If your status shows “Final Stages,” that typically means your return has completed most of the processing and is waiting for the refund to be issued.

Michigan only updates refund statuses once per day, so checking multiple times throughout the day will not change the status.

Thank you for your patience while the state continues processing refunds.
